  • It is considered a green lung with front sea, defined by a forest of slender Palm trees that give it that unmistakable Mediterranean seal. It owes its current name to famous born in Alhama de Almería Almería, known for being the first President of the Republic I. Born with the demolition of the old medieval walls in 1855 and the start of construction of the port, which frees a wide strip land occupying the urban front. Originally, there was only the old promenade, comprising the current Paseo de San Luis, which highlights the steps located at the end of Queen Street. It was designed by José María de Acosta around 1890. Today ranges from so-called source of fish, at the end of the calle Real, to the western end of the Park, the current Avenida del Mar. Instead the new Park is located to the East, to the Rambla, and is the result of a phase of expansion of the port ended after the Civil War. The architect Guillermo Langle will restore that space in the post-war period with small ponds and pergolas. However the design was later transformed in 1971, during the Naval week of Almeria the source with greatest tradition is the round or fish, designed in 1957 by Perceval Jesús with a small classical column raised on a plinth decorated with giant fish in their three-pronged opening his Maw, which gives access to the old part of the city through calle Real. The old park is known for its multitude of trees of large, corpulent trunks and huge cups that provide shade to visitors both in winter and in summer. A recent refurbishment has taken advantage of the old blocks from la rambla. On the other hand the new park area is more open, decorated by fountains and ponds, as well as with alternation of shrubs, grass, hedges and trees, mixed with large spots of seasonal flowers. The idyllic existence due to its proximity of the port, this also has undergone logic changes over the course of time. In 1978 when the first Centenary of the Board of works of the port meets, shown how has regained its commercial character. The most obvious signs are undoubtedly the outside enclosure, which separates it from the Parque Nicolás Salmerón and that a gap is already specifically port. The transformation of the port occurs progressively and begins with the development plans that are carried out in the early sixties. Both the old Park and new Park, is one of the capital's most beautiful areas, flanked by own gardens Park, the port, the beginning of the promenade and Avenue built in the old riverbed of la Rambla.
