Maca Contemporary Art Museum of Alicante, Alicante

4.3
#4 of 11 in Museums in Alicante
Three permanent art collections are housed at Maca Contemporary Art Museum of Alicante, inside the oldest government building in the city. The highlight of the attraction is the Juana Francés collection, bequeathed to the museum by the artist. This local artist's collection includes graphic work, paintings, and sketches that impress with their use of shape and texture. The Baroque government building where some of the collection is displayed is attached to a modern structure designed by architect Sol Madridejos. Inside this portion is a 20th-century art collection, with pieces from Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso. • € 2 per head. 4 levels with elevator or stairs. Nice paintings. We didn't know anything about art, but contemporary it's always nice to 2, being asked lots of question. Dining room 20 degrees, when its 35 outside, bind the useful to the culture, I recommend. Super friendly staff!

  • It is a small museum, if you don't entertain much, hour and half have seen you. I really liked the permanent exhibition dedicated to Eusebio Sempere, I learned a lot. The space is very large and comfortable visit, is free.

  • Not a big Museum, but a great Museum. Again, in a beautiful square, and well organized, interesting exhibitions and nice collection. Downtown.

  • A really nicely sized museum with a great permanent collection and an interesting style. The top floor was modern geometric/architectural metal sculptures and paintings from the artist responsible for securing the funds for the museum. I'm grateful for the museum, but not a big fan of the art... The second floor had a fantastic mix of modern art from Spanish and foreign artists including a Calder mobile, some Miros, and a few folks I'd never heard of before. One of the staff told us that they had Picasso and and other modern masters that were currently out of rotation, but still included in their permanent collection. It's definitely worth checking out MACA especially during the hottest part of the day if you're not on the beach.
  • If anyone likes the art I recommend, one Picasso work, free admission, no photo opportunities
  • Beautiful modern building and fascinating artwork. Spacious interior and good layout. Not crowded, so one can enjoy the museum's content in peace. Very nice!
  • An interesting and spacious building that displays well the various artworks. There are items in here that are clearly important within Spanish life and culture but that are hard to 'read' coming in from cold. Worth a quick visit even if your not a modern art fan. Only issue: why is the man in the front desk so incredibly angry with everyone?! Try giving people a welcome so they know it is OK to be there.
  • Beautiful art museum. Nothing special to day about.
