Cervantes Birthplace Museum, Alcala De Henares

Surrounded by lively tapas bars and outdoor cafes, Cervantes Birthplace Museum is a restored property at the birthplace of “Don Quixote” author Miguel de Cervantes, who was born in 1547. The house is a sterling example of Golden Age Castilian architecture, with rooms built off a central patio to provide relief from the intense Spanish sun. Entry is free, and inside you'll see 16th-century furniture, a spinning wheel, and other accoutrements of Cervantes' time, as well as ancient manuscripts of the Quixote. You may catch a showing of Master Pedro's Puppet Show, inspired by a famous episode from the novel. Visitors love to stop for a picture between the bronze statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, who perch on a bench outside the Calle Mayor entrance, in the heart of Alcalá de Henares' historic district. • This museum is located in the heart of the old historic town in the Calle Mayor. It is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00 pm, except on Monday. Admission is free. It is a small house with courtyard and 1 floor. The Office of the father of Cervantes is decorated with frescoes. We see everywhere terracotta tiles and ceiling beams. In the various spaces are there furniture and objects from the 16th and 17th centuries. A fascinating and instructive visit!

  • Fastest lap at Alcalá for downtown and especially the House of Cervantes. A must on the bench with the protagonists of his novel

  • What was to be a visit fast I just feel one of 2 hours! But it was totaaaalmente worth. I advise to go before 12.30 to see a representation with a narrator, sancho panza and quijaote, with tour in the Centre of Alcalá and very fun, educational and worked. I love! And luck that we saw it! If I go back to Alcalá de henares, again to that Museum.

  • Beautiful statues outside of Quixote and Sancho o take funny selfies, nice street to walk, shop, eat, meet.
  • Nice place. Not the original pieces, but period correct.
  • actually, it is NOT the real house of Cervantes, but one of his time, refurnished with furniture of the 16thC. Even so, deserves a visit !
  • Yet another free to enter museum. Get there early opens at 10.00 but there was a large group of school children going in behind me. Also a large amount about 100 tourist heading that way when I left about 6 coaches I the town before 09.00
  • Such an interesting and accurate display of home life in that period .Great photographic collection .
