Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, Suwon

4.0
Built on the slope of a hill within the walls of a fortress, Hwaseong Haenggung Palace served as the king’s out-of-town residence during times of war and occasions when he visited his father’s tomb. The 18th-century palace, which was severely damaged during the Japanese colonial period, was restored based on information from detailed court records and opened to public in 2003. When it was not occupied by the king, the governor used the palace as his office. Start your tour with a visit to the exhibition hall and 3D theater outside the front entrance, then see how the area looked in the past at the square in front of the palace. If you’re visiting between March and November, you can catch a changing of the guard ceremony and a demonstration of martial arts. Look for the sacred tree at the entrance, pick up a piece of paper and a pen lying next to it, write down your wish, and tie it to the tree. • I visited the site and really is a very nice place, Rico in culture and fantastic constructions. Despite the visit being in this colder period, but it was worth it. Recommend!!!

  • Fun times going from watching a Saint & Geum. Haenggung is a travel guide and takes around and hour. Fun ride vehicles such as the open bus tour for Dongtan, to 1周 about 30 minutes after that. No time to recommend. The walk takes about two hours in? Departure from the parking lot next to haenggung. Tickets at the parking lot entrance ticket box.

  • Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is located inside of the Hwaseong Fortress. Visit the Place first, and then go up to the Seojagdae, the highest point of the Fortress, using stairs behind the parking lot. It is short-cut to the Fortress. It is worth seeing.
  • The palace is not as grand nor big as compare to those in Seoul but together with the fortress, it makes for a pleasant day trip away from Seoul. The fact that it is less crowded makes it even better.
  • Key to this site is to see the free shows, that is what moves it from a 4 star to 5 stars. Check before you go what are that times! The show last 1/2 each time.
  • The palace grounds aren't amazing, but the neighborhoods around it are friendly, there are a number of nice restaurants and art galleries, and you can take a hike around the old palace walls. It's a nice excursion and it's only 10-15 minutes by bus from Suwon Station.
  • As a citizen of this city. I highly recommand u to visit here. :)

Where to stay in Suwon

The accommodations in Suwon tend to lie in clusters throughout the city. Conveniently located for onward travel, one such group sits by the main train station, and includes basic hotels and luxury chains with commanding views of the downtown area. Look to the east of Highway 1 for another wide range of lodging choices, where the gridded streets pack in newer hotels and budget-friendly guesthouses, all close to the main urban sights and pleasant public parks.
