Create an itinerary including Hwaseong Haenggung Palace
Built on the slope of a hill within the walls of a fortress, Hwaseong Haenggung Palace served as the king’s out-of-town residence during times of war and occasions when he visited his father’s tomb. The 18th-century palace, which was severely damaged during the Japanese colonial period, was restored based on information from detailed court records and opened to public in 2003. When it was not occupied by the king, the governor used the palace as his office. Start your tour with a visit to the exhibition hall and 3D theater outside the front entrance, then see how the area looked in the past at the square in front of the palace. If you’re visiting between March and November, you can catch a changing of the guard ceremony and a demonstration of martial arts. Look for the sacred tree at the entrance, pick up a piece of paper and a pen lying next to it, write down your wish, and tie it to the tree. • Pretty nifty historical site with some props showing how people and objects looked in the past. Also, there are plaques explaining specific things of interest with multiple languages to facilitate a better understanding. Also, super affordable.
  • Friendly and helpful staff. This location has some neat exhibits which are interesting for Korean heritage, however there are other great sights to see around this area. For tourists visiting South Korea this is definitely worthwhile.
  • This is the temporary palace which the king used and he also planned his retirement here. This place depicts the traditional korean culture. This is a must visit place to witness the ancient tradition and enjoy with family.
  • We visited this palace in the evening, during the night tour and it was Fantastic!!! The palace is just as big and beautiful like all the palaces in Seoul, so I think it is quite underrated among overseas visitors compared to others, but it is totally worth visiting! If you go up the highest point you can see the beautiful city landscape from above and also the Hwaseong fortress & a hot air balloon too! at night there was also a light show in the middle area of the palace, with different lights constantly changing and Korean traditional music playing in the background too! There are also some exhibits on how people used to live there back in a day! Super interesting!
  • I would recommend that you go there at night. In winter season probably super cold though 🤣 The view was a stunning when you reach at the guard pass on the top
