Statue of Admiral Yi Sun-Sin, Seoul

4.1
#77 of 541 in Things to do in Seoul
Admire Statue of Admiral Yi Sun-Sin, the representation of protection and patriotism. Erected in 1968, the bronze statue faces the city square and honors the admiral who defended Korea against the Japanese navy in the 16th century. Admire the 17 m (55 ft) depiction of the designer of "geobukseon" warships (turtle ships), a model of which stands at the feet of the admiral, serving as an educational guide and memorial to the 16th-century war. Learn about war tactics and the story of the great warrior's life. Built on the South side of Gwanghwamun, even from a distance, we can understand that there is. In Korea, Sejong the great and Shun yi heroes and a shall be from Gwanghwamun square has statues of the two is that, like make. Include turtle ship in front of the statue is kinda small eyes may miss.

Where to stay in Seoul

The Seoul metropolitan area has two districts especially appealing to backpackers--Jongno just northeast of the city, and Hongdae to the west. Both offer good shopping and dining, as well as easy transport links to the rest of the city. Mid-range options may prove difficult to find in peak season (July to August), unless you don't mind staying at a traditional hanok guesthouse, where loads of character make up for any lack of amenities. Finally, a range of top-end hotels with an impressive list of services and facilities lie scattered around the city.
