Where to stay in Seoul

The Seoul metropolitan area has two districts especially appealing to backpackers--Jongno just northeast of the city, and Hongdae to the west. Both offer good shopping and dining, as well as easy transport links to the rest of the city. Mid-range options may prove difficult to find in peak season (July to August), unless you don't mind staying at a traditional hanok guesthouse, where loads of character make up for any lack of amenities. Finally, a range of top-end hotels with an impressive list of services and facilities lie scattered around the city.

  • One of the best history museums I've seen. Plenty of fascinating, modern design and creative exhibits with clear chronology and guidance to follow in several languages.
  • Free admission. Small museum but offers a brief history of Korea. Peaceful and beautiful court yard. Clean. Recommended for a 2hrs visit.
  • Great museum that details the history of Seoul. Very nice for a crash course about the city's history.
  • Exhibit on Namdemun Market was an obvious ploy to get customers to return to the failing market. Sad. The rest of the museum looks okay if you're interested in Seoul's history.
  • Nice building with interesting content. About 2 hours to complete. No far from city hall
