National Gugak Center, Seoul

4.4
#18 of 140 in Museums in Seoul
Absorb the preserved history of the country's traditional music and dance culture at National Gugak Center. The center was built in 1950 and now stands as one of four such facilities across the country, thanks to a growing demand for classes, and steadily increasing attendance. The word "Gugak" is an umbrella-term, covering all types of antiquated Korean music, and as a visitor, you'll have the opportunity to take in an informative introduction to the subject through varied song and dance performances, held every Saturday at around 3 pm. Consult the center's website for weekly listings. Take a look at our Seoul day trip tool to schedule your visit to National Gugak Center and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • We arrived a few minutes before the start of the show as well as (attention place at 10-15 minutes walk from the metro) but time to go to the bathroom (although informed staff) we have been closed out the time of the first piece at least 10 minutes on a show that lasts an hour we are used to this kind of show in d other countries, that was brief, sometimes boring because repetitive even though the musicians were quality, very long delivery of percussion, lack of variety and melody in General expensive for what it is to the return shuttle to subway stations and train which is probably to come too

  • Facilities are great. There are several theaters, often of Korea traditional music, dance, mix with contemporary performances. Theatre is theatre of Ondol (underfloor heating) and take off your shoes, take their seats. I, traditional & Nice was watching a concert of contemporary (also some dance). Clean the stone bibimbap I've ever had in delicious on-site restaurants. Vegetables were very good. Recommended audience manners well in Seoul art appreciation if you are pretty! Stalking me when I watched, was the only local people.

  • Wonderful facility with staff who speak English. They are truly dedicated to preserving the historical art and traditions of Korea. They have traditional music classes for foreigners for an affordable price, and it really is a rare opportunity to find this. The building itself is modern and bewutiful, so come and visit!
