Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul

(4.1/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Besides serving as the seat of Seoul's archbishop, Myeongdong Cathedral remains the symbol of Catholicism in South Korea. Completed in 1898, the imposing structure is dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, regarded as the patron saint of the Korean nation. Admire the towering brick building, a prominent example of the Gothic Revival style, or step inside to admire the lavishly decorated walls and stained glass windows of the interior. You can take part in mass, in English, every weekend. A visit to Myeongdong Cathedral represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Seoul trip generator to plot your vacation.

  • If you love architecture or just want to visit a Catholic Church in Korea, then this is the place to go. I visited in autumn with my parents. You're allowed to go into the church and pray or just walk around the grounds. There are cafes and shops on the premises as well. They provide English brochures as well.
  • Visiting here for Easter Sunday and it was a truly beautiful experience! We attended the 9 a.m. English Mass and it was packed to the gills. Plan time ahead if you intend to visit as we hear it is often very full. God bless.
  • There's a mass sevice in the church crypt on weekdays 10AM. Aside from attendit mass, you can visit the tombs of 9 korean martyr saints. that's really an awesome experience.
  • Great place to worship. This is the first catholic church in Seoul.
