Shopping Neighborhood
Head to the international district of Itaewon, a cosmopolitan center known for its shopping, food, and partying. The local saying goes that expats may not know Seoul, but they sure know this place, and you'll certainly hear a good deal of English in the area, which American soldiers called home in the years directly following the Korean War. Imported clothes fill the stores, while eateries serve up plenty of international cuisine--everything from curries to pizza and burgers. Bars and clubs add to the lively atmosphere of the district, home to a burgeoning LGBT scene. Where to stay in Seoul

The Seoul metropolitan area has two districts especially appealing to backpackers--Jongno just northeast of the city, and Hongdae to the west. Both offer good shopping and dining, as well as easy transport links to the rest of the city. Mid-range options may prove difficult to find in peak season (July to August), unless you don't mind staying at a traditional hanok guesthouse, where loads of character make up for any lack of amenities. Finally, a range of top-end hotels with an impressive list of services and facilities lie scattered around the city.

  • A nice spot for tourists to see a variety of Korean culture. Many vendors speak English. Lots to eat with reasonable prices.  more »

  • Nice, economic and convenient place to stay in Seoul for visitors. We were a group staying in the dormitory . The Seoul hop on hop off bus stop is just a 7 minute walk along the main Street near Subway station (turn right and cross the road). Convenience store nearby, they have a pantry for preparing some breakfast and even a bit of cooking. Staff very helping. No lifts - have to carry luggage up. Reception is one floor up.
  • It was okay. I used a single room. There were lots of nail holes on the wall and the pillow was yellowish( it was supposed to be white!). The shower space was small it only fits for one person. But it was kind of clean. Though, it was very cheap and the staffs were very nice. There was no curfew.
  • Itaewon Hostel is easy to find near exit 4 of Itaewon subway. It is close to all amenities and night life. The hostel is clean and tidy, the bed I had was comfortable and the sheets fresh. The toilets and showers are of a good standard and regularly cleaned. Slippers and a towel are provided. The dorms have lockers and free padlocks (to borrow) are also given on arrival. A 10 000 won deposit is required and you are given it back on leaving. The front desk is manned 24 hours a day which is excellent, and all staff i met were welcoming and friendly. Itaewon hostel is really good value for money and i would recommend it to anyone for cheap, clean, no fuss accommodation in central Seoul.
  • It was great to stay. The location near with mosque and halal food. The receptionist also very helpful. Thank you for your great hospitality. If I coming back to Seoul will stay here again.
  • It wasn't my first time in Seoul but this wasn't a very good place to stay one night in during the weekend. The place overall was clean and well kept. I got upgraded (no extra charge) from a single private room to a double private room due to overbooking issues. The thing I didn't like the most about my stay was how loud the other guests were being in the hallway. But the staff were friendly and helpful and really wanted to get to know their guests!
