Haneul Park, Seoul

4.5
#14 of 45 in Parks in Seoul
Nature / Park
Part of a larger site built to commemorate the 17th FIFA World Cup, the lofty Haneul Park affords panoramic views of the site and mountains beyond. The park was actually built on a 15-year-old landfill site, which held 92 million tons of garbage. Haneul Park was built on the highest mountain of trash, which has been utterly transformed into a verdant hill, covered in various trees and flowering shrubs and grasses. Check out the various viewing platforms as you take the walkway to the top of the hill, and look out for the five wind-powered generators that feed the park its energy. A visit to Haneul Park represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Seoul travel itinerary planner to plot your vacation.

Where to stay in Seoul

The Seoul metropolitan area has two districts especially appealing to backpackers--Jongno just northeast of the city, and Hongdae to the west. Both offer good shopping and dining, as well as easy transport links to the rest of the city. Mid-range options may prove difficult to find in peak season (July to August), unless you don't mind staying at a traditional hanok guesthouse, where loads of character make up for any lack of amenities. Finally, a range of top-end hotels with an impressive list of services and facilities lie scattered around the city.

  • Seoul world cup stadium exit 1, go further to the main road. U will see the haneul park's hill in front of u on the left. So close to the stadium by walk. Climbing the wooden stairs to the top of the hill is so easy and the view is awesome. So r the fields on top of the hill (where u can find a small place where u can drink and have a snack, and toilets) and the big steel sculpture u can step on from its inside and enjoying the awesome view. It is a perfect place for couples. It is romantic even in winter. I highly suggest it
  • Quick and nice outing in Seoul. Good walking with fresh air. You can have beautiful command of view including Han river.
  • Nice to catch the sunset here. And when the grass blooms in autumn its a good place to get pictures. It gets pretty crowded on a weekend and expect long walks and cues on the stairs. If you dont want falling in line take a longer walk by the road
  • Located across the world cup stadium. Need to climb 291 steps to reach the park. Very big and interesting for photo taking.
  • remember dont go there in weekend are too many people, you eatimate at least 30 mins walking uphill is hard to do, obviously, you may see the amazing scenic on the top of the park.
