Gwanghwamun Gate, Seoul

4.3
Admire Gwanghwamun Gate, the main entrance to Gyeongbokgung palace and a symbol of the long-reigning Joseon dynasty. Originally built in 1395, the gate was destroyed numerous times, most notably during Japanese invasions and in the Korean War. It has been painstakingly reconstructed from 2006 to 2010, in an effort to make it closely resemble the original. When visiting the gate, you can observe the ceremonial changing of the royal guards, a ritual performed hourly between 10 am and 3 pm. • The main entrance to the palace complex. For free you can walk along the entire range in national costume, which is pretty hot if sunny day.

  • This is the square in front of Gwanghwamun of Gyeongbokgung Palace. It is so thick on the road, so traffic is heavy. I think the better car care would be taken in this area. Very fast speed of the car. It was unclear what there like a big Lantern.

  • This is the South(Peacock) Gate at Gyeongbojgung Palace. At 10 & 2, there is the changing of the Royal Guards ceremony. You don’t need a Palace ticket to see it. All the “guards” are outfitted in unif...  more »

  • Amazing architecture of the glorious past and the hi-tech Seoul. Soft skinned Korean girls in stunning Hanbok dresses mixing and doing selfies with foreign tourists. Excellent place to experience Korea at its best.
  • Amazing visit. They do a changing of the guard twice a day in traditional garb and how they would have done it centuries ago. Right next to a nice museum too.
  • This is a pure historical place in seoul, Korea. A most recommended place if you want to see real Korea. You will see old cultural village, traditional korean buildings and a lot of people wearing hanbuk which is Korean traditional dress. This place is also nearby to a beautiful stream, some markets, Pakistan and Vietnaam embassy.
  • Centred on one of the busiest roads, this is definitely an attraction you must see, from any hotel located in seoul a taxi fair will be around $10-$20 to get to the destination, located nearby are plenty of other attractions and shops.
  • A plaza locates in front of Gyeongbok-gung There is wayout of Gwangwhamun tube station, Seoul underground number 5. You can see statues of Lee Sunshin and King Sejong. Also there is memorial place of Sewol tragedy.
