Dongdaemun Market, Seoul

3.3
#18 of 111 in Shopping in Seoul
With a few dozen malls, 30,000 specialized shops, and 50,000 manufacturers all centered around a landmark gate, Dongdaemun Market combines traditional and modern shopping. Home to the biggest clothing suppliers in the country, the market offers textiles, clothes, wedding wear, shoes, and accessories in addition to electronics, toys, and food. Shop until you drop and get some really good clothing bargains. Wholesalers come at night to pick up the latest fabrics, making this sleepless district bustle until early in the morning. • The Dongdaemun market I walked across from the subway station closed early unlike other Dongdaemun shopping centers nearby . But some of the food stalls still open at night and help to direct me to Do...  more »
  • In 3-4 times I go to Korea. But when I go with my husband and I in Myeongdong, Namdaemun etc clothes shopping is. When the mother goes always to peace in Dongdaemun market rabbit corner cheap!! and in many old favorite stores, Wow! There is 2,000 if you look. It is unbearable to mother of a favorite. From Korea is to buy clothes that big-name rare in Japan. I know it's products stocked in Korea pretty much came to Japan, I sold more... After the made in Korea is strong and good. Take care, do not buy was made in Middle note!

  • Visited here for the yarn, which is located on the first basement level. Those vendors are happy to deal with individual shoppers, but a lot of the stuff is still in "bulk" packages. Probably best to come before lunch, though the yarn vendors do seem to stay open longer than everyone else. Fun experience, overall.
  • Best place to buy clothes and fabric but you need to go to the right places. Aviid big building and target busy allies or outdoor markets if u want to soend less money. I bought a bunch of good quality lace for 80cents per meter.
  • It is not what it used to be, with all the big name Duty Free outlet there. I feel sorry for the Chinese tourists who are held captive in there :P When you wander away from the gilts you will see what is worthy of being called a market. Sparsely decorated shops displaying stacks of the same thing as their neighbours. And once you know how things are organised, you will have a ball of a time here. You know that 35,000 won hat you saw at the street stall in Itaewon? They bought it here for 15,000 won, and so can you. What the hell, go ahead and buy TWO hats and still have money for some coffee.
  • Dongdaemun Market, what can I say. There's so much choices here you'll either go mad or madder lol It can be so overwhelming but if you found what you looking for the services are super quick. Virtually no matter where you are in Korea, services seems to be the number one priority from a market to top notch high end shopping centres. Do you want this packed in a plastic bag, vacuum sealed, boxed... how would you like to take it, take it with you now or courier etc.. Nothing like Australia, where you paid and hand you the goods in a bag or you need to go here and there and ring a bell and collect it from there etc. Totally different experiences. Shopping experiences is great here.
  • I love this kind of shopping area where affordable stuffs is located. You can buy lots of pasalubong from key chains to clothing here for an affordable price. Yet, it is best to visit during weekdays because some shops during weekend are closed. It is better to have lots of options you know. A must place to roam around when you visit korea...♡
