Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Seoul

#15 of 520 in Things to do in Seoul
Resembling a giant spaceship docked in a field of fake white roses, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) hosts fashion design shops, a multipurpose convention hall, a history museum, and eateries. A combination of classy shopping mall and suave conference center set in the middle of Dongdaemun fashion district, this modern landmark of Seoul gets an extra accent from thousands of glowing LED lights along its sloping curves. You can also explore some 2,575 artifacts in the restored parts of a fortress excavated during construction works. The plaza is well-connected, with a subway station just underneath. A visit to Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Seoul day trip planning website to plot your vacation.

  • Normal events. If you want to view an event without the buildings come from the ddp Dongdaemun looking at the building in full towards the exterior.

  • You know, this is a go, at least for the sake of having to assess flight fantasy Grand Architect and scale the object. In my opinion this building one of the most important sights in the city. Come, look at it, follow the conceptual shops inside, climb in the cafe on the top floor, drink bokalchiku and can travel further to explore the city on this cultural program in this site can be completed.

  • What a long time ago building, where (like the site of Park) was made some years ago. It is a modern atmosphere. Especially at night the feeling of space. And surroundings are beautiful, brighter if someone even late at night, relieved ago and late-night shopping can be shown now.

  • Had high expectation since it’s huge open space and many talk about how cool this place is but i find it boring. It looks beautiful but that’s the only thing about it,nothing much in the building considering it’s huge. it’s almost empty tho it’s weekend. Maybe because it’s just a few days after January 1st. Still...
  • This is bad use of public space. It takes up an entire city block in the center of Seoul and it is basically a dead zone. Yes, it is a modern building but it does not work as an engaging public space. Walking into the building felt like walking into a large public bathroom. Not very inviting whatsoever. The time I went, there were less than 10 people in the building and about the same outside. The site and the building can be so much better utilized ...
  • Nice place. More a shopping center than a museum. Only one area has set of items built over some original paintings of a sigle author. Many of them electronically animated. Worth a visit, but after visiting the rest of the city.
  • Often free concerts and gorgeous little shops. The design of the building is incredible. Also a free museum here. All shopping complexes are close by. Has its own train station on the lower level. Could easily spend an hour or two here, but not a whole day.
  • The architecture was amazing, unique and different at the same time, it was you could say breathtaking. The statues were different full of illusion from far, you would hardly see the difference either front or back. Out standing view of lights . One of the main spot was the field of led artificial flowers which light up the night to create a jaw-dropping view. Wonderfully.♡♡♡.

Where to stay in Seoul

The Seoul metropolitan area has two districts especially appealing to backpackers--Jongno just northeast of the city, and Hongdae to the west. Both offer good shopping and dining, as well as easy transport links to the rest of the city. Mid-range options may prove difficult to find in peak season (July to August), unless you don't mind staying at a traditional hanok guesthouse, where loads of character make up for any lack of amenities. Finally, a range of top-end hotels with an impressive list of services and facilities lie scattered around the city.
