DongDaemun Design Plaza, Seoul
(4.2/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Resembling a giant spaceship docked in a field of fake white roses, DongDaemun Design Plaza hosts fashion design shops, a multipurpose convention hall, a history museum, and eateries. A combination of classy shopping mall and suave conference center set in the middle of Dongdaemun fashion district, this modern landmark of Seoul gets an extra accent from thousands of glowing LED lights along its sloping curves. You can also explore some 2,575 artifacts in the restored parts of a fortress excavated during construction works. The plaza is well-connected, with a subway station just underneath. DongDaemun Design Plaza is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Seoul Edition.

  • I have visited the DDP a couple of times. The building is artistically designed and it is a pleasure to see it both inside and from outside. There are various display stores. Next to it is the ancient...  more »
  • Regrettably deceased architect Zaha Hadid designs buildings. Last building was probably completed ago it can do? So just go to watch may slightly flat impression compared to the Hong Kong S.A.R. Polytechnic University in East Asia, from Japan to take a look at.

  • Nice architecture and good design. It really does focus on bringing all what Korea can offer design-wise around this place.

  • The exterior was interesting, but the interior spaces... what a waste of space! There's really not much to do and see inside, just a great photo op outside. It's not everyday you get to see a spaceship! This is the type of architecture Zaha Hadid is in to, and it's quite an experience. IG 📷: thearchitectdraws
  • I really love the architectural masterpiece that makes the entire place stand out from its surrounding peers - even though the entire Dongdaemun area is artistic and has its own charm no matter what. There are many periodic installations and exhibitions from various artists, which make this place never boring and never repetitive. That said, the curation of the works can be much better done, as the works sometimes can be a little underwhelming for the glorious exterior.
  • All the stars go to the exterior. It's like an UFO landed in the middle of Seoul. Come here at night if you only have one chance because the light really makes ot feel like a spaceship. Inside are shops, gallery and museum thatcare linked to the subway station. I didn't go to the museum but I think they should find better things to do with such space. Still, the outside is perfect photo op for tourists. My favorite spot is from the pedestrian intersection to cross to the Lotte Fitin mall.
  • This massive architectural masterpiece is home to many exhibitions, from culture to modern design, and a large showroom that houses designer's visions. There is a subway station under the complex, as well as a few shops and many restaurants. I went to the old culture exhibit, which featured old, famous artwork. The design market is cool, but everything is very expensive. The second level of the design market has items for the home, like kitchenware and a few pieces of furniture. There is a room where you can experience VR, some 3D printers you can watch (or buy) and a neat place where they can create a figure that looks exactly like you with a massive camera setup. The plaza is also located next to a few major department store type outlets.
  • Great place to check out different designer items and exhibits. All exhibit halls are closed on Mondays so plan your visit accordingly. The stores are open all week.
