  • The container house is rich in art and is a place where a lot of music is filmed. There are many specialty shops in Shang Lay, equipped with Huang Special, selling art boutique, costume decoration and so on. You can try people's Rainbow cakes. There is also an open-air café at the top of the commercial, which is worth clocking in.

  • Nice shops (especially for guys), nice restaurants and cafés to chill at. If you're in Seoul for shopping it's definitely worth a visit even if it's a bit far off from downtown.  more »
  • This place is suited for the young and hip since there's nothing much you can do here but appreciate the huge blue shipping containers and take pictures. The shops inside are quite expensive. If you f...  more »

  • The blue containers bring such a unique feel to this place! There are a lot of smaller shops, name brand and indie, cafes and restaurants. But most fun about Common Ground are the special events. I just stumbled upon the "silent disco" there last week and it was so much fun!!!
  • A lot of trendy clothes and a few trinket stores. Not much in terms of variety unless you want clothes. Food trucks have great food, as well as the rooftop cafes and restaurants.
  • This is hot place. Here you can see the lifestyle of young people all over the world. and you can see cultural contents such as fashion, art, magazines, etc. There are restaurants and beautiful cafes. Go to Konkuk University Station.
  • Common Ground is a great place for shopping or just visiting. It was built with a ton of freight containers, so from exterior it looks like a freight container pile-up. Inside Common Ground are some trendy brands of shops where u can find some unique design just like shirts, caps, handbags, purses, etc. Also a café is here for the already exhausted legs. Though the number of shops may not be as many as one expects, it's a shopping site as well as a creative place worth visiting.
  • Easy to get here by subway. Two minutes walk from Konkuk University station exit 6. Just walk straight and you will see the blue shipping containers. Interesting place to see some local designers' products. Not a very big area so you only need an hour in this place. Food choices are limited within this place but you can probably find other restaurants in streets nearby.

Where to stay in Seoul

The Seoul metropolitan area has two districts especially appealing to backpackers--Jongno just northeast of the city, and Hongdae to the west. Both offer good shopping and dining, as well as easy transport links to the rest of the city. Mid-range options may prove difficult to find in peak season (July to August), unless you don't mind staying at a traditional hanok guesthouse, where loads of character make up for any lack of amenities. Finally, a range of top-end hotels with an impressive list of services and facilities lie scattered around the city.
