#21 of 88 in Museums in Seoul
A National Historic Site, Bank of Korea Museum offers an insight into the national bank’s history and economic role in the country, as well as the world. The splendid 1912 building stands out as one of the most aesthetically pleasing in the area, with its recognizable design resembling the buildings of the French Renaissance. As you enter and walk through the bank's many rooms, you'll learn about the development of the Korean economy and its role on the global financial scene. See a collection of coins ranging from ancient times through to the present day, and find out what they were worth through the centuries. At the end of your visit, you can have a drink in the cafe on the first floor, or buy replica currency from all over the world in the souvenir shop. • The Bank of Korea Money Museum is a great place to spend the time with the children. They will love the interactive things that they can do. It was opened as a celebration to mark 50 years of the foun...  more »
  • But as the Museum is small in scale and watching carefully read the description of currency back it took quite a lot of time trying to. International currency display and the experience was even a corner. Experience from the corner put the money coming out of his face to take a circle 500 machine, which seems a good thing to celebrate ~

  • This museum is worth seeing if you are interested in money, economics, and/or history. It is geared towards adults, though some teenagers may enjoy it. I would not recommend this museum for children. ...  more »

  • Very nice hall and building. Free entry and wifi. Very good explanations. Clean toilet facilities. A bit small, 1h is enough.
  • Very nice place, very interesting, great history, lots of fun! Be careful where you step
  • Take more than an hour to visit here. Great gift and literature selection available at gift shop. English brochures available.
  • Free and informative museum. You can see ancient coins of China, Japan and Korea, South and North korean currencies, etc.
  • Takes about 1 hour to have quick view, and guide tour also possible upon request on preset times. You can see the schedule on its website, and may feel find a small but nice place in downtown.

Where to stay in Seoul

The Seoul metropolitan area has two districts especially appealing to backpackers--Jongno just northeast of the city, and Hongdae to the west. Both offer good shopping and dining, as well as easy transport links to the rest of the city. Mid-range options may prove difficult to find in peak season (July to August), unless you don't mind staying at a traditional hanok guesthouse, where loads of character make up for any lack of amenities. Finally, a range of top-end hotels with an impressive list of services and facilities lie scattered around the city.
