Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seogwipo

(4.6/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Rising from the ocean like a rocky crown, the World Heritage Site of Seongsan Ilchulbong stands as a testament to the region's ancient volcanic activity. Formed nearly 5,000 years ago by an eruption, the formation, known as a "tuff cone," features sheer walls with a depressed center. Hike your way up to the top of the raised crater, which stands 180 m (591 ft) high and has a diameter of nearly 600 m (1,969 ft), and look out over the rugged interior. You'll also get to enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding ocean and coastline from the rim. Seongsan Ilchulbong is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Seogwipo Edition.

  • Ascension is by stairs (less than 500 steps) in a few minutes. We can do a few stops to admire the view on the Seongsan port and its surroundings. Once at the top, is the crater that before our eyes and everyone poses for the photo (hana, deul, set!). The descent is even easier and savored in advance what we can enjoy in the coffees and snacks located at the foot of the stairs. It's banal tourism, but it is really fun.

  • Picturesque place with the view of Seogwipo at the peak. You need a good walking shoes to explore the place especially climbing the stairs going to the peak.  more »
  • It is a world heritage site. Entrance fee is 2,000 won. It was crowded with many tourists. To the top takes about 30 minutes. View from the top is found that is nice and popular.
