Heyri Art Village, Paju
(3.9/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
Less than 6 km (3.5 mi) from the North Korean border, you'll find the unlikely Heyri Art Village, a vibrant community of over 370 working artists. Between them, these architects, painters, writers, and musicians have created a manicured trove of unusual structures, streets, and suprising sights. Among the stark architecture you can expect to see unexpected sculptures, juxtaposed with ornate gardens and dilapidated retro rides. Look out for the "Farmer's Table," a restaurant used as a filming location in one of Korea's best-loved dramas, "Boys Before Flowers". You can see all this before even entering the township's abundant art galleries, displaying everything from traditional paintings to sculptures made of chocolate. • During our visit we didn't discover any real art. Most of the shops sell cheap souvenirs. The village is overcrowded with parked cars. It's a weird posh Asian place. I wouldn't recommend going there.
  • Love this place with its unique museums and cafes. Wear comfortable shoes for a nice stroll around this area.
