Seongeup Folk Village, Jeju

2.7
#1 of 7 in Historic Sites in Jeju
See scenes of traditional Korean life at Seongeup Folk Village, a small, inhabited town that also operates as a government-funded open-air museum. The rock walls and thatched roofs of the buildings have a pleasant, pastoral look to them, while a large number of cultural points of interest, including Confucian shrines and schools, stone statues, and monuments, transport visitors back in time. Look out for the local black-haired pigs running around, a central (and by all accounts very nutritious) aspect of Jeju folk culture. Is powered a protection funds to defend the village folk. For the winter to buy a caterpillar or tea was taken it seemed. In turn take the Guide winter Cordyceps salesperson wanted to turn more freely, but I inadvertently bought a seaweed.

  • It's nice to visit the folk village and the stories the tell about the traditional activities and cultural here. But it was seem like they try to push the tourists buy there products as honey and horse bone jelly and linzhi mushrooms, which not original from here.
  • A very interesting place to see a traditional village. The fortress wall is a very nice sight to see, and they're are several historical displays.
  • Interesting place but not particularly unique. Still having work done/being refurbished. Local guide was very good - well informed.
  • Nice village. Its a location for korean drama.
  • a small village to learn about history and tradional culture of jeju. There will be a short introduction by local resident which is interesting. The culture and enviroment should be promoted, protected and preserved, but not to make it for commercial business.

Where to stay in Jeju

You'll find plenty of accommodations in Jeju, an established tourism destination for mainlanders and foreign visitors. Look in the Nohyeong-Dong district and by the harbor in the city center for the majority of rooms. Across these two areas, you'll find everything from luxury hotels to budget, family-run guesthouses. Guesthouses in rural areas attract backpackers with inexpensive rooms, while rental cottages in the coastal areas remain popular with honeymooners.
