Seongeup Folk Village, Jeju

(420+ reviews on the web)
Battlefield
See scenes of traditional Korean life at Seongeup Folk Village, a small, inhabited town that also operates as a government-funded open-air museum. The rock walls and thatched roofs of the buildings have a pleasant, pastoral look to them, while a large number of cultural points of interest, including Confucian shrines and schools, stone statues, and monuments, transport visitors back in time. Look out for the local black-haired pigs running around, a central (and by all accounts very nutritious) aspect of Jeju folk culture. Put Seongeup Folk Village into our Jeju travel itinerary planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • I don't understand the hype of this place. Maybe it's because I went on a Sunday and no one was around, but I walked around for about an hour and there wasn't much to see. The small houses are cute an...  more »
  • Coming from India this doesn't look much of a village. Yes there are huts but it's all too neat and clean . Some huts have split ACs too. It's a nice setting but I would have preferred seeing another ...  more »
  • Interesting but not a must. The village tries to explore the way of life in the past. Not to impressive.  more »

  • a small village to learn about history and tradional culture of jeju. There will be a short introduction by local resident which is interesting. The culture and enviroment should be promoted, protected and preserved, but not to make it for commercial business.
  • It was dead when we visited (mid March 2017, on a Saturday). Would skip it. Did visit an artisan liquor maker where we purchased nearly 2L of a special type of rice wine for 15000 krw.
  • Quite nice to learn about jeju island history and culture. Quite interesting to see something that might not be found anywhere else. Very local very traditional....
  • Very interesting place. A real traditional village.
  • Though korea is a modern country, the korean government has made this a heritage village to depict the way of life of village folk as it was several years ago.My visit to this place was informative, enjoyable and memorable.
