At the center of Jeju Island lies Hallasan National Park, a designated nature reserve which contains hundreds of cone-shaped volcanos surrounding the main mountain. Famous for its diverse ecosystem due to changes in altitude and temperature, the park shelters 1,800 species of identified plant life and 4,000 species of animals. Go on a hiking trip of 10 km (6.2 mi) to explore the natural haven, or you can even head to the mountain top with no terrain difficulties. Bear in mind that the weather unpredictably changes, so make thorough preparations, especially before ascending to the peak. • The ascent of Mt. Hallasan is if you like nature, the market and as your schedule allows. With my wife, we are always trying to at least a beautiful hike in the countries we visit and that of Jeju is one of the most beautiful but also one of the more demanding than we have done. Several routes are possible depending on your starting point. The long way and the more difficult (5 h climb to 8.7 km) is "Gwaneumsa" then the next is "Seongpanak" (4 h climb to 9.3 km). These are the only 2 paths that will lead you to the (1950 m) Summit of Mount above the South Korea. The classic route is from Seongpanak then once at the top down by Gwaneumsa. Buses and taxis are available on car parks but for gwanemsa, a bus... Count 15 000 won to connect the 2 car parks by taxi (15 km). The ride is great but difficult because of the altitude, Rockies portions and thousands of markets (knifey) that punctuate these marked routes has the Korean, basically it is super secure, impossible to get lost and as soon as possible is on the floor in wood with markets. FYI, you ride on one side or the other, must be having 2/3 before 12:30 to hope to reach the peak. Sporty, we tried to maintain a good pace from the beginning at the end (Seongpanak-> gwaneumsa) and put 3 hours for the ascent and 2:30 for the descent with 45 minutes of lunch at the top and several photos, water breaks in general. Don't be afraid to get started because we cross many seniors of 70 to 80 years. By planning just takes time to go at your own pace without pressure and it is a treat.

  • Great place. Worth the long and arduous climb up Jeju's peak.
