Bijarim Forest, Jeju

4.3
#4 of 8 in Nature in Jeju
At 800 years old and reaching 25 m (82 ft), the world's oldest nutmeg tree--“Ancestor tree of the Bija trees”--grows in the green oasis of Bijarim Forest. The evergreen forest contains around 2800 nutmeg trees between 500-800 years old, with their nutmeg known for its beneficial effect on the immune system. Walk around the picturesque pathways and breathe the fresh air, or sit on the park's benches and large rocks, enjoying the vista of rich treetops spreading like spider's webs. Feel the soothing ambiance and energizing power of the beautiful forest. • Public transportation is available, but the dispatcher interval is long. Little is a good place to walk to the tourist.

  • It's the largest single-species forest. Forest composition and feel, rather than the long walk to where the course.

  • Bijarim means nutmeg and that's what the forest trail smells like. This pleasant smell will accompany you on the whole 40min-1hour stroll. The highlight is an 813 year old tree but throughout the trail you will see other tree species. Do be careful that the trail may become muddy on a rainy day (like the day I went) and I spent some time avoiding puddles. Nonetheless, there is a wash point for you to wash your feet or shoes at the exit of the forest! It is a very peaceful and calming place to clear your mind. Come to breathe in fresh air!
  • Beautiful nutmeg forest for a nice afternoon stroll.
  • Rainy day, nice trees though
  • Great place to walk in the forest
  • nice forest path be aware roads not stroller friendly although the map indicates accessible

Where to stay in Jeju

You'll find plenty of accommodations in Jeju, an established tourism destination for mainlanders and foreign visitors. Look in the Nohyeong-Dong district and by the harbor in the city center for the majority of rooms. Across these two areas, you'll find everything from luxury hotels to budget, family-run guesthouses. Guesthouses in rural areas attract backpackers with inexpensive rooms, while rental cottages in the coastal areas remain popular with honeymooners.
