Seokguram Grotto, Gyeongju

2.7
Symbolizing a spiritual journey into Nirvana, Seokguram Grotto treasures forty figures representing Buddhist principles and teachings. Nestled in the hills and made of hundreds of granite stones, the 8th-century cave temple is the only intact structure surviving from the Silla era and a World Heritage Site. Pass a narrow corridor lined with bas-reliefs of guardian deities, which leads from a rectangular antechamber into the main rotunda. Once there, take a moment to appreciate the 3.3 m ( ft) tall statue of Buddha, seated on a pedestal and smiling generously. Entrance, walk through the woods that 15 minutes, finally reaches the location of the statue. Too great and its statues are protected by glass, and stood up. Watching, I felt.

Where to stay in Gyeongju

With 6 million tourists per year, Gyeongju offers a wide range of accommodations. The area around the Bomun Lake resort has several luxury hotels catering to the needs of Korean tour groups. More moderately priced hotels lie in the downtown area, notably in Nodong-Dong and Noseo-Dong quarters. Near the train station, you can find inexpensive guesthouses (yeoinsuk), motels, and hostels. Family-oriented mid-range hotels tend to cluster just east from the lake, but the tourist-friendly city has accommodations well distributed throughout.
