Bulguksa, Gyeongju

(800+ reviews on the web)
Historic Site
The head temple complex of Jogye Korean Buddhism, Bulguksa features two exquisite stone pagodas and a gilded bronze statue of Buddha, which earned it World Heritage Site status. This impressive temple complex set in a picturesque landscape stores some of the world's oldest woodblock prints, made in the first half of the 8th century. Stroll underneath cherry trees and azaleas, place a pebble in a rock garden or touch a pig statue for good luck, and visit a hermitage in the grotto to see burial mounds and a 3.5 m (11.5 ft) tall Buddha. English-speaking volunteer guides will tell you all about the temple's tumultuous history. Plan your Bulguksa visit and explore what else you can see and do in Gyeongju using our Gyeongju family vacation planner.

  • This temple and its grounds are gorgeous. I visited during spring and the park between the carpark and temple was filled with cherry blossoms. The temple has a serene atmosphere with some lovely old p...  more »
  • Worth a visit is outside the circuit of the Center. There was nobody on our arrival. Small site

  • Quite expensive entry (5000won) and more than 30 minutes by bus from the Center, for finally not much. Lots of big groups of tourists, vendors of junk. The visit itself is quite short. The temple is beautiful and old but isn't the prettiest or the most impressive that we've seen in Korea. It is worth to be seen, but we found that it wasn't worth the price of entry + transport.

  • One of the most beautiful places I've visited in Korea. Interesting temple complex and a wonderful garden.
  • Pretty place. A "must to do" if you hiked just before ;-)
  • Great temple surrounded by nature. There is a lot to see. The scenery is beautiful. Recommend to visit if you are in Gyeongju.
  • Beautiful temple. Great structures and a lot of praying. Parking lot costs 1000 and entrance fee is 5000
  • Definitelly worth visiting. You will take a lot of great pictures.
