Beomeosa, Busan

(4.4/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Pay a visit to Beomeosa on the side of Geumjeongsan mountain, known for its picturesque forest surroundings. Built in 678 CE, the temple complex was destroyed during the Japanese invasions, but rebuilt in the later centuries. Enjoy the relaxing, but strenuous hike up to the temple, where you can relish the spiritual atmosphere, well-maintained gardens, and the scenic mountainside setting, especially picturesque in late spring when the wisterias bloom. Continue the hike to the top of the mountain to see a legendary well where, according to local tales, a fish came down from the heavens to swim, giving the temple its name. • Please wear good walking shoes or even hiking type shoes. The first set of temples have placards explaining the history. You can even sign up in advance to stay in the temple as a meditation retreat. ...  more »

  • Although snow covered this tour was very interesting for someone who travels all of the time but rarely takes the time to sight see.

  • Beautiful temple and garden surrounding the place. When we visited the space, some maintenance was going on. The place is easily accessible by public transport and there is no need to get a cab if you are in leisurely mood. It's good for people looking for some quiet time.
  • Beautiful and serene temple area.
  • Worth visiting while exploring remains of the fortress.
