4.4/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web
Pay a visit to Beomeosa on the side of Geumjeongsan mountain, known for its picturesque forest surroundings. Built in 678 CE, the temple complex was destroyed during the Japanese invasions, but rebuilt in the later centuries. Enjoy the relaxing, but strenuous hike up to the temple, where you can relish the spiritual atmosphere, well-maintained gardens, and the scenic mountainside setting, especially picturesque in late spring when the wisterias bloom. Continue the hike to the top of the mountain to see a legendary well where, according to local tales, a fish came down from the heavens to swim, giving the temple its name. • I only went here as a starting point for my hike up Geumjeongsan Fortress, and even when I'm already starting off late for my hike, I still wasn't able to resist the charm of the place. I tried to ski...  read more »
  • While it may seem really secluded Temple is worth. As well explained in other posts, after descending the Metro at Beomeosa you can take bus 90 there or if the day is not extremely hot and physical conditions permit you, the path of just 3 kms from climbing up the mountain is beautiful. A forest of pine trees, maple trees and bamboos, with streams, waterfalls and some that another small temple on the way if you go by bus you get lost. The Beomeosa temple complex is quite large and with incredible views of the mountain and the city. So do not leave without seeing.

  • I recommend up in collective and down walking (since if it is hot, the ascent becomes quite tedious). And don't miss the food of the monastery! The queues are long, but it comes quickly to the dining room!
