Beomeosa, Busan

4.4
#2 of 8 in Historic Sites in Busan
Pay a visit to Beomeosa on the side of Geumjeongsan mountain, known for its picturesque forest surroundings. Built in 678 CE, the temple complex was destroyed during the Japanese invasions, but rebuilt in the later centuries. Enjoy the relaxing, but strenuous hike up to the temple, where you can relish the spiritual atmosphere, well-maintained gardens, and the scenic mountainside setting, especially picturesque in late spring when the wisterias bloom. Continue the hike to the top of the mountain to see a legendary well where, according to local tales, a fish came down from the heavens to swim, giving the temple its name. On the hillside of Mt. 802 metres above sea level. It is a famous temple to pray for the souls of many people's blood flowed during Silla unified the three kingdoms, the people uisang this place of dreams, in the Inner Temple. Sign this time, walking directions go 90 bus from the side of the Metro No. 1 line pomosa Uptown was super, I was teaching 3 km. Hiking and you have good I think. And 1 Y alleys there are signs in some places and appear to either not lost climbers heard the right loose S steep-up rapidly left I told the shortcut, select the left that bothers to another was not. Both road then joined one so don't worry! A gradual uphill is arrival gate, bus stop, parking lot. Beomeosa Temple is the name of the Temple from a revelation in a dream a fish swimming in the rock well, and I said so. In Japan-with shakado Hall, left by Mido-Kannon-do Temple, right body throw ground in prayer had been. I've 納経 Sutra in the temple.

I have seen over 10 temples across Seoul and Busan and this is my favourite! It is very authentic and large. Unlike the other temples I have seen, Beomeosa is a true hermitage and is organized like a small town where many monks live and practice. They even offer temple stay, which I regret not doing but I did spend over 6 hours at Beomeosa and took part in a prayer exclusively designated for monks so I am grateful for this opportunity. One of the senior monks made an exception and allowed us to participate in their ceremony, it was very powerful and special! Amazing place to take photos, enjoy in tranquility and experience a true Buddhist lifestyle.

It's okay but not exceptional. It's spread out a bit so there's some sincere up hill walking to see parts of it.

Beautiful temple and garden surrounding the place. When we visited the space, some maintenance was going on. The place is easily accessible by public transport and there is no need to get a cab if you are in leisurely mood. It's good for people looking for some quiet time.

Where to stay in Busan

Established as a domestic tourist destination for a long while now, you'll find a good set of accommodations in Busan, a city becoming more and more equipped to cope with its burgeoning international reputation. Around Seomyeon station and slightly further to the northeast lie some of the most established options, with an abundance of hotels, hostels, and guesthouses in this highly commercial district. Head to the Haeundae beach district for a range of beachfront options, and more budget-friendly guesthouses in the side streets that lead away from the beach.
