Beomeosa, Busan

Religious Site
Pay a visit to Beomeosa on the side of Geumjeongsan mountain, known for its picturesque forest surroundings. Built in 678 CE, the temple complex was destroyed during the Japanese invasions, but rebuilt in the later centuries. Enjoy the relaxing, but strenuous hike up to the temple, where you can relish the spiritual atmosphere, well-maintained gardens, and the scenic mountainside setting, especially picturesque in late spring when the wisterias bloom. Continue the hike to the top of the mountain to see a legendary well where, according to local tales, a fish came down from the heavens to swim, giving the temple its name. • Yes, it was a long way from Haeundae, train to the last stop and then change to bus 90 (5 min walk from the train station to bus station). I wouldn't walk up the hill, it was a long way, I recommend t...  more »
  • I loved! Great colors, paper lanterns, not too many tourists (it's great) and, above all, nice walk to go from one temple to the other. We get back from a long hike to Jeju so we did not everything, but the complete tour can be sporty! Only downside: the work (April 2017). My companion was a little disappointed that the buildings are so new, but it doesn't really bother me. I also enjoyed the fact that it is a place of worship "in activity", many were simply there to pray.

  • Beautiful temple and garden surrounding the place. When we visited the space, some maintenance was going on. The place is easily accessible by public transport and there is no need to get a cab if you are in leisurely mood. It's good for people looking for some quiet time.
  • Beautiful and serene temple area.
  • Worth visiting while exploring remains of the fortress.
