Beomeosa, Busan

4.4
#2 of 8 in Historic Sites in Busan
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Pay a visit to Beomeosa on the side of Geumjeongsan mountain, known for its picturesque forest surroundings. Built in 678 CE, the temple complex was destroyed during the Japanese invasions, but rebuilt in the later centuries. Enjoy the relaxing, but strenuous hike up to the temple, where you can relish the spiritual atmosphere, well-maintained gardens, and the scenic mountainside setting, especially picturesque in late spring when the wisterias bloom. Continue the hike to the top of the mountain to see a legendary well where, according to local tales, a fish came down from the heavens to swim, giving the temple its name. • We are a family on its own public transport is easily reached the temple Beomeosa: up to 133 Beomesa line 1 metro station, continue along the Street between fifth and seventh outs of Metro station walk uphill for about 5 minutes before stopping 90 bus past this stop pass impossible. The names of bus stops are duplicated in English, to go no more than ten minutes, this is the upper point of the route, the next bus on the circle is already down on our stop left many passengers. From the bus stop again up the Hill on the track, past will pass information Bureau, you can borrow a plan of the monastery, we took a free copy in English. Maybe sometimes there are plans and in Russian, not specified. On the way to the monastery of detailed advice helped us volunteers, men of retirement age, they talked in English about the history of the monastery, advised that show. Entrance to the monastery is free. It should be noted that the volunteers very kindly. To visit the whole complex in a quiet pace from the moment you exit the bus to return to the bus stop we had about an hour and a half, but this of course individually, it is possible to observe what is happening in the monastery next to the monastery you can stay longer and longer. The air at an altitude of amazingly fresh, nature is very beautiful, runs along the slope of a mountain river, on the banks of the locals picnics. The Sabbath was a summer's day, there were many visitors got to see service. Circle were placed decals of outward conduct meditations. Visit turned out fun and informative, we are people distant from Buddhism, could touch this interesting religion, to discover the new.

  • Best Temple of Korea. High in the mountains above Busan, was this really the most beautiful temple that we have seen during our holiday.

  • I have seen over 10 temples across Seoul and Busan and this is my favourite! It is very authentic and large. Unlike the other temples I have seen, Beomeosa is a true hermitage and is organized like a small town where many monks live and practice. They even offer temple stay, which I regret not doing but I did spend over 6 hours at Beomeosa and took part in a prayer exclusively designated for monks so I am grateful for this opportunity. One of the senior monks made an exception and allowed us to participate in their ceremony, it was very powerful and special! Amazing place to take photos, enjoy in tranquility and experience a true Buddhist lifestyle.
  • It's okay but not exceptional. It's spread out a bit so there's some sincere up hill walking to see parts of it.
  • Beautiful temple and garden surrounding the place. When we visited the space, some maintenance was going on. The place is easily accessible by public transport and there is no need to get a cab if you are in leisurely mood. It's good for people looking for some quiet time.
  • This is one way that Busan preserves its true heritage. Amazing place!
  • Beautiful scenery. Nice temples

Where to stay in Busan

Established as a domestic tourist destination for a long while now, you'll find a good set of accommodations in Busan, a city becoming more and more equipped to cope with its burgeoning international reputation. Around Seomyeon station and slightly further to the northeast lie some of the most established options, with an abundance of hotels, hostels, and guesthouses in this highly commercial district. Head to the Haeundae beach district for a range of beachfront options, and more budget-friendly guesthouses in the side streets that lead away from the beach.
