Create an itinerary including Maclear's Beacon
Marking the highest point on Table Mountain, Maclear's Beacon offers sweeping views of Cape Town and its surroundings. The beacon was originally built in 1865 as a triangulation station and is still used by cartographers today. The hike up via the Skelton Gorge route is an adventure in its own right, while walking up from the Upper Cable Car Station is much easier. In any case, you will get to enjoy the views, so be sure to bring your camera. Maclear's Beacon is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

  • On top of Cape Town - highest point of Table Mountain. Lovely walk from the cable-car station and back. I am gobsmacked by the views every time I visit the place. Cape Town is not a place - it's a passion!
  • Brilliant hike. Maclears is the highest point on Table Mountain. Simply awesome being up there. As always, when on Table Mountain, be prepared to have 4 seasons in one day, wear hiking or walking shoes and STAY on the path.
  • Great hike from the aerial tram exit. Plan for an hour each way. Rocky sections can be a bit hard on the knees Small section with chain support!
  • Always like to visit the highest spot when visiting or hiking the mountain. They should do a lot to improve the path through from the Cable car. We were hiking there on Tuesday and the short steep bit with the chains on the cable car side of top of Plattekloof was very wet and slippery, making it far more dangerous for families wanting to explore the table top
  • Just clouds up here today, now view. Would recommend tho
