Cango Caves, Oudtshoorn

4.5
Wandering the illuminated chambers and halls of Cango Caves, you'll encounter a staggering number of fascinating dripstone formations, ornate crystals, stalactites, and stalagmites. If you're feeling adventurous, you can opt for the two-hour tour, during which you'll need to climb the rocks and crawl into narrow, claustrophobia-inducing passageways, to discover the cave's more remote grottos and pools. • Did the shorter heritage tour. great guide and all amazing and informative. Quite a few steps into the cave and back up but very well lit.  more »
  • Whilst the caves were very interesting the visit group was too large and we spent a lot of time at each cavern waiting fir everyone to catch up.  more »

  • What a great tour. We did the Heritage tour which takes about 60 minutes and went into all the big caves. Well the rock formations are stunning!. Hundreds of millions of years old. Incredible! Great guides. A visit well worth it.
  • Beautiful caves! Just do NOT come during the holidays, the groups were too big to a point where you can't really hear what the guides are telling you about the caves. Other than that it's really beautiful and something to definitely see!
  • Amazing place to visit if you're doing the garden route ! There's some history to it. My husband and did the adventure tour- we had to squeeze through small holes and crawl in tunnels.. was a great experience overall !
  • A very enjoyable hour or so in the three major caverns, some wonderful natural sculptures well illuminated when the guide throws the switch to give maximum impact. Well organised guiding as tourists are split into groups of 20-30 usually based on languages, then take different routes so one cavern is not choked with people. This seems to work well. There are different levels of tours where fitness & size play a part. There is a size guides in the booking hall & the body has to pass though the gap to earn a place on the more adventurous route. The normal tour is suitable for most people & only a number of steps to climb here & there & the caves were dry when we visited in November.
  • Breathtaking caves and an experience of a lifetime as a South African and highly educational. I was just very shocked to see how people (kids and adults) continued to touch the rocks after being told not to... please people. Respect these caves.
