South African National Museum of Military History, Johannesburg

4.5
Founded in 1947 to record South Africa's involvement in World War II, South African National Museum of Military History quickly expanded to cover all conflicts the country was ever involved in. Exhibited items include official records, photographs, weapons, and other artifacts from various battles and wars. Be sure to take a look at the Boer War Memorial, which is dedicated to all who lost their lives during this late 19th-century conflict. • Absolutely a must visit place. If you have an interest in war and memorabilia to the incredible engineering needed to make all the machines used in wartime. Incredible firearms collection that you would struggle to find any place else. Would have loved to share pictures but I was reprimanded by security as I lifted up my phone for some digital memories
  • The South African Museum of Military History is a must see for those interested in military history. The displays take you through multiple eras of weaponry, wars and technologies. There is a display of tanks, aircrafts, and more from different eras. The only negative is that the display has not changed over three visits. But the displays are so big that one cannot take in everything in one visit. If you like swords, handguns, rifles, assault rifles, tanks, canons, history, medals, uniforms, or anything of the like, then go!
  • The fact that there is a ME-262 at this museum is a good enough reason to visit! Lots of World war 2 aircraft, tanks, weapons and equipment, as well as things from wars after. Very reasonably priced and kid friendly! Make sure to bring comfortable shoes and water.
  • Very interesting place to visit. I think very under rated and deserves a lot more attention. There is so much to see here and the staff are super friendly. I attended a conference here and had a bit of free time so had a look around. For any conference this place really adds dimension and makes for a great setting. Definitely recommend checking it out.
  • What an amazing museum. The artifacts are outstanding. Very well kept . Immaculate and the attention to detail is great. Lovely day out.
