Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club, Johannesburg

4.6
#3 of 19 in Golf in Johannesburg
Two beautiful parkland Layouts, characterised by tall well established trees which line the fairways. The two courses compliment each other perfectly by the contrasting challenge they offer the golfer.

The East Course is ranked in the top 10 golf courses in South Africa and has played host to 7 South African Opens and the Joburg Open since it's inception in 2007. It is long and challenging and will test even the best golfers.

The West Course is a more forgiving layout than the East and is preferred by many higher handicap golfers. Not quite as long or penal as the East but the manicuring is on a par, making for a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf.

  • Played the East course, the Championship one, today. Only word that comes up is: perfect. Course is in superb condition, not flat, but not too hilly, easy to walk, certainly with a caddy. This caddy i...  more »

  • The vastness of the metropolis of Johannesburg allows the existence of a core of golf courses distributed in just a few kilometers from the city center, like Houghton, Killarney, Parkview, Wanderers. Then there's the famous Glendower near the airport and the challenging, historic Royal Kensington in the chic and Linksfield. Other then I'm just a little more decentralized, some public and some that are located within resorts with Hotel, restaurant, swimming pool and so on. In short, I recommend a long stop in Johannesburg who should decide on a golf trip-safari-cultural. As for the Royal Kensington in particular is essential of course book and tee times and preference caddies or carts. Both locations are immersed in a nature with wildlife, dotted with trees, lakes, and views that take your breath away. The welcome and care are perfect, the entertainment good, fully stocked pro shop, affordable green fees, the putting green and the driving range at the height of the reputation of the Club, and the fast greens and prepared as for one of several South African players in the summer championsips attract from all over Europe cold. Recommended.

  • Royal Johannesburg and Kensington is one of the most prestigious golf course in Gauteng. There are two course and both are 18 holes. It has a driving range and a full bar. The restaurant is incredible and they have an amazing breakfast spread. You will not be disappointed in the facilities or the golf.
  • Royal Johannesburg Golf Club has so much potential, but doesn't currently utilise it. As a golf course, it has two courses. The East Course (a championship course regularly used for the Joburg Open which is part of the European Tour) has recently been completely refurbished and is very good. The West Course is due for refurbishment, and badly needs it. The clubhouse is a typical golf clubhouse, and has a bar and outdoor restaurant, but could be SO much better. The club needs to become more like a Country Club, drawing members for way more than golf and a drink. They need to make way better use of their outdoor facilities, extend the patios with views and encourage people to come have sundowners and a meal there watching the sunset over the course. They also need Jack up the practice facility/driving range and to use their incredible setting better. But the golf is good.
  • The east course was an amazing experience. Will play the West course next. Not often you have 3 or 2 golf courses next to each other.
  • Impeccable layout at one of the classic Jo'burg courses. Well kept greens and fairways.
  • Always a pleasure playing there. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful. Love it there
