Gold Reef City, Johannesburg

3.9
A themed entertainment complex, Gold Reef City remains best known for its 1880s-reminiscent architecture, numerous amusement park rides, and a casino. Built on the site of a gold mine that closed in the 1970s, the park boasts a mining museum and hosts live music and theater performances with staff members in period costumes. Try your luck at the casino, check out the on-site restaurants, or choose from a multitude of rides suitable for all ages, from high-speed roller coasters to child-friendly water park slides. • South Africans best theme park. We unfortunately came on a bit of a rainy day. So some rides were closed for a while on the day, so we went on the open rides and had a great time. Lines were shortish, so wasn't too bad. The rain stopped later on and we got to use the closed rides from earlier and they were also just as fun. The planes that turn, the anaconda, everything was awesome. Had a great time with my girlfriend for a date.
  • The one night stay at the GRC Hotel and conference centre was a lovely experience. Helpful and friendly staff. They helped to boost my vehicle on departure, even though I called the AA for assistance. The rooms are decently kept. Sad that we were affected by the cable theft....we could not use the rides for most of the day, but all was not lost since they refunded us the funds of the theme park so that we could use it at the magic company for the kids entertainment. Nice first-time experience. Will go again with my family. I do recommend staying over. Barney's staff are cool and very accommodating.
  • Really enjoyed the outing. Gold reef is Ideal for people that are adrenaline junkies. The rides are fun and addictive. Lovely surroundings. The restaurants are beautiful and delightful to eat at. There are expensive options as well as affordable which makes it a very balanced place to go. The entrance fee is quite expensive making it a expensive outing for the family, just make sure to not go during payday as the lines are extremely long. The environment is clean and neat and easy to find all the rides as they are not that far apart. Definitely a lovely place to experience with friends and family because you have constantly have fun. Very nice to go during summer time just make sure to pack good sunscreen. Would recommend any day have been there multiple times.
  • There are many attractions at Gold Reef City, including water rides, roller coasters and the famous Gold Reef City Casino. Gold Reef City is located to the south of the Central Business District off of the M1. It is also the site of the Apartheid Museum. It is a amusement park filled with both no rider and rider trill games. You can bring your whole family to come and enjoy and it had convenient restaurants and food stalls. Great rides such as the anaconda and tower of Terror are the order of the day and plus the new add trill game the high flying ✈ Maverick is awesome.
  • There's lots to do and it's a lot of fun. Just make sure you're up for the rides. Start with the ones that are not so hectic then go to the scary ones. It's also a good great place for the whole family as everyone can be accommodated. You will also find shops to buy food and arts and crafts things. There is also a number of small museums and there is a 4D theater. The apartheid museum is right next door. Be mindful that you'll have to pay an entrance fee to enter. However, I am of the opinion that entry should be free of charge.
