Must see · Specialty Museum · Landmark
Stop by Nelson Mandela Capture Site to admire the striking monument dedicated to the late president and anti-apartheid activist. The statue marks the location where, in 1962, the police captured Mandela, who managed to evade arrest for 17 months. View the sculpture, designed by Marco Cianfanelli and made up of tall steel columns, aligned to create a portrait of Nelson Mandela that comes into view as you approach the memorial site. • What a terrible experience! For the past few years I have gone to this place with different Russian friends maybe 5 or 6 times. We usually stop on the side of the road to see the memorial where...  more »
  • A fee of R50 to walk down the path and read laser cut metal signs describing 27 key points of Nelson Mandela‚Äôs life to the sculpture feels excessive for a completely outdoors monument. This option is....  more »
  • It is such a special place where people who are South African can realise what Nelson Mandela did for the freedom of people and that all people should be treated with respect and dignity  more »
  • There is so much history to read and very little room to do it without disturbing the flow. A bigger place is needed to house all the information in a way that someone who needs to know about the history can take their time going through it. The outside surroundings are neat and well kept. I suspect that the poles of the sculpture needs a bit of realignment in certain areas so that it appears like when we see the older pictures here. Otherwise it is an experience worth having.
  • This part of our South African history and heritage. It is wonderfully exhibited to be enjoyed by the visitors. I recommend that everyone must make an effort to visit this place. Hopefully the museum will be opened as it was being finished off.
  • Very informative and well done. There is no entrance fee to walk through the information section or to visit the statue. The grounds are well kept and the staff greets you friendly. There is a shop and toilet facilities available. My only issue will be the parking. We arrived just after rain and it was very muddy.
  • Great place, I enjoyed every moment. The sculpture is very artistic. The long walk to freedom concept was designed very well.
  • new museum still not ready. current site a bit tacky. the monument is amazing. great reflection and history.
