Marvel at the force of water cascading down Howick Falls, a single-drop waterfall on the Umgeni River. Gushing from a 95 m (310 ft) tall cliff through a large crack in the rock, this water plummets down into a large foaming pool at the base. Hear the sound of the thundering falls and observe the turbulent green vortex of water in the pond, or climb to the cliff-top observation deck, which takes an hour to reach by foot. A popular tourist attraction, the site makes a good picnic spot, with a number of eateries and Zulu traditional arts and crafts shops nearby. Ask about the tale of "inknyamba," a legendary serpent-horse creature living in the waterfall lake. Put Howick Falls and other Howick attractions into our Howick day trip planning website, and watch your holiday take shape.

Obviously seeing a waterfall at such scale is always amazing. The stalls nearby are always a must to walk past and have a look, the owners are all very friendly. Preferably go on a Sunny day. Ps...

Beautiful spot to see I believe the 3rd highest waterfall in South Africa. Has a bit of history around the falls at a section in the front. There’s also a small museum next to the falls. Definitely recommend you to stop and admire the place when you’re in the area.

Howick falls, the one entrance is closed so we had to take a separate entrance. The information board is quite detailed about the geology and history of the falls. The view is lovely and there are many curios that one can buy from the stalls located close by.

Well worth the stop! The falls were full from all the recent rains. Magnificent 😍

A quick visit to the Howick Falls (our first time seeing the falls). Really beautiful - it was a Sunday morning and surprisingly not a lot of people around. Lovely stalls with handmade artwork. If you are in the area, stop here and take a few pictures.

So glad we briefly stopped to view this remarkable landmark. The falls are very close to the parking, a few souvenirs and local crafs for sale, but the merchants don't harass you. I loved purchasing a few goodies to support them. Worth a slight detour!
