The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley – picturesque vineyards, breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, fine wines and a 300 year history.

Passengers aboard the hop-on hop-off tour will experience a unique and leisurely way to see the Franschhoek Valley as they journey through rolling vineyards in a magnificent double-deck railway tram and an open-air tram-bus stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates.

A combination of double deck railway tram and tram-bus transports passengers around a loop of stops allowing them to hop-off at each stop and experience the activities on offer, be it wine tasting, a cellar tour, lunch or simply a stroll through the vineyards and when they are ready, hop-on to continue the tour.

The tour takes passengers right into the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, with a narration focusing on the history of Franschhoek and wine cultivation in the valley and unparalleled views of the valley and vineyards. • Travelling with an 8 month old this was ideal. The choice of vineyards is far reaching and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. I’d researched which vineyards to go to but if you hadn’t they....  more »
  • Following a winery tour throughout the day this was our last tour. We took the tram from the outskirts of the town to the station, boarded the tram, we were given a glass of wine and we were able to.....  more »

  • Really enjoyed our day trip here. We had a lot of amazing wine. Had hummus & wine, chocolate & wine and pizza & wine tasting. Beautiful environment. They offer private pick up at your hotel, very reasonably priced.
  • Great way to hit up a few wineries with amazing scenery. Staff was super friendly. Would definitely do it again! Make sure you show up early before your start time to get your tickets... They are very punctual.
  • Really nothing special here. The tram itself is a bit of a gimmick. The entire trip on the tram is about 10 minutes and is otherwise by automobile shuttle. I would have enjoyed the tour a but more if I rented a car and drove to each winery myself. Furthermore, the guides were a bit loud and shared knowledge that I could have done without.
  • This is a wine train like no other. It was fun, the stops were entertaining with good wine, good food and good friends. This is a break away where you truly can forget all your troubles and just enjoy the fantastic environment, and some really good wines that our earth has to offer.
  • Great fun. You could always drive yourself to the farms, but that's boring. You go on a tram between some of the farms and on tram-style busses the rest of the way. Great for day out with friends. You can even (and probably should, to avoid intoxication) have lunch or meat and cheese platters at some of the farms.
