Create an itinerary including Škocjan Caves
Explore the largest known underground canyon in the world at Škocjan Caves, a World Heritage Site famous for its many waterfalls, diverse stalactite formations, and limestone pools. The caves feature 6 km (3.7 mi) of underground passages and one of the largest underground halls. With a total depth of over 200 m (656 ft), this system of limestone caves was inhabited as early as Mesolithic times. On your way through, you will pass a 116 m (380 ft) long tunnel, a dry river bed, a so-called "silent cave" and "murmuring cave." Look out for the huge stalagmites called the Giants and the Organ. The highlight of the trip is crossing over a 45 m (148 ft) high bridge. Bring a light jacket and put on good walking shoes since the paths can be slippery. Put Škocjan Caves and other Škocjan attractions into our Škocjan day trip tool, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The tour was stunning. I must say, the cave was bigger and even more impressive than in all the pictures you see of it. I was just astonished most of the times. It does get a little bit hard if you’re afraid of heights because there is a bridge really high up that you need to cross, but the feeling of seeing everything going on in this cave is remarkable
  • Incredible place, absolutely breathtaking. The murmuring river in the underground canyon leaves unforgettable impression. The scenes inside are like in Lord of the Rings (or Portal 2 game on underground levels). When you're leaving the cave, you have 3 options to get back to the initial point: two short routes and one long. It's really worth to take the longest route (#3, takes 40min) and see all the beauty of the canyon. Unfortunately, photos are forbidden inside, even without flash, there is a monitoring (however, a lot of people still do it)
  • The most beautiful cave I have every visited. It is amazing to see that nature can create such massive caves underground. Be aware that the cave has become a big tourist attraction and that buying tickets beforehand is highly recommended. Visiting the cave is done in groups of 40 with a guide. Inside of the cave it is NOT allowed to take any pictures (only at the exit). At the exit of the cave there are three options of returning to the main building. I recommend taking the longest route, if the walking doesn't bother you, as it will take you through some extra caves where you can take some pictures.
  • Amazing cave - totally worth it. The tour inside has about 400 steps to go up and down but the view is amazing and the guide information quite interesting (mind that the initial group will be defined at the entrance in smaller groups so the access is more controlled and information could be heard from all). The guided tour is not so long (around 2km) but after exiting it, you can take 3 paths - if you take the longest one, even it has again many stairs up and down is a total beauty! I totally recommend the longest trail after existing the guided tour.
  • Beautiful caves, unfortunately you can't take pictures inside, we walked the longest circuit with our grandchildren and there was no problem. It's best to order tickets online and you have peace of mind.
