Must see · World heritage site · Cave · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Explore the largest known underground canyon in the world at Škocjan Caves, a World Heritage Site famous for its many waterfalls, diverse stalactite formations, and limestone pools. The caves feature 6 km (3.7 mi) of underground passages and one of the largest underground halls. With a total depth of over 200 m (656 ft), this system of limestone caves was inhabited as early as Mesolithic times. On your way through, you will pass a 116 m (380 ft) long tunnel, a dry river bed, a so-called "silent cave" and "murmuring cave." Look out for the huge stalagmites called the Giants and the Organ. The highlight of the trip is crossing over a 45 m (148 ft) high bridge. Bring a light jacket and put on good walking shoes since the paths can be slippery. Put Škocjan Caves and other Škocjan attractions into our Škocjan day trip tool, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • I think this was the most impressive and stunning place I've ever seen. I was trying to choose between this and Postojna and I'm really happy I did both. People try to compare both caves, saying...  more »
  • I found the caves to be rather dull. They had one room that was pretty impressive for stalagmites/stalactites but overall they weren’t very impressive. Most of the time was spent going through a...  more »
  • The cave is Enourmous, however very few stalgmites. The tour leaves every hour and packs hundreds of people. Instead of every half an hour. Packing too many people at the entrance at once (not...  more »

  • Wow! What an amazing experience. The cave was really breathtaking and I would recommend anyone to visit, definitely a must see. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star review is because they didn't have a separate English and Slovenian group. We were together. And although our tour guide was excellent, she had to say everything in Slovenian and then English which sometimes was very long. On the website it made it seem like there was a separate English tour but maybe because we visited during the low season they grouped us together. Anyways, still had a great time!
  • This place is amazing to visit....you can hardly believe that there exist something like it in this world and the story of the rocks that grow. They are shiny and of different types
  • I suggest bringing your own flashlight with you because it's kinda dark in the cave. The cave itself is really interesting and totally worth the money. It's sad that you can't take pictures inside the cave but that is understandalbe. There are free parking lots just next to the info center.
  • One of the most amazing places I’ve seen so far. Totally recommended. Tours are offered in Slovenian, English and Italian.
  • There are guided tours in Slovenian, Italian and English. The tour takes about two hours and is very interesting, the entrance for student is 12 euro and there are scheduled tours at 10 everyday. Very nice trip and amazing landscape!
