Walls of Piran, Piran

Landmark · Tourist Spot
Put one euro in the locked gate to access the stairs and climb to the top of Walls of Piran, offering views of the city and the sea. The three walls were built during the town's long history, and large parts remain well-preserved today. See the ruins of the first wall from the 7th century in the old part of the town. The third wall with its seven towers built between 1470 and 1533 is almost completely intact. As you explore the walls, look for the oldest of the eight city entrances or "gates," which dates back to the 13th century. Among other gates, pay attention to the city's best-preserved Gothic doors, constructed in 1483 by mayor Dolfin. To visit Walls of Piran and other attractions in Piran, use our Piran trip planner.

  • Went yesterday (before the rain came). Only €2 to enter and can walk up a couple of the towers (really do need to mind your head with the stairs on the first one) and about 5-600m of walkway  more »
  • The view if you climb to the very top is impeccable.
  • Town with a lot of medieval architecture, narrow streets and compact houses. Heavily influenced by the Venetian Republic and Austria-Hungary, the monuments differ greatly from those in inner parts of Slovenia. Worth the trip.
  • The view is absolutely stunning and you are feeling like the whole city is yours.
  • Amazing place to watch the sunrise, and it’s usually not so crowded.
  • We loved walking around in Piran and going up the walls was a nice end to a pleasant afternoon. The view is great from up there and it's only 2 euro per person.
