Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg), Piran

4.6
Sitting close to the water's edge, paved with white marble and surrounded by elegant 19th-century buildings, Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg) serves as the largest square in town and a hub of activity. The square was part of the harbor until 1894, when it was filled in and mounted with a statue of violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, after whom the square is named. Most of the buildings are older than the square itself; be sure to look for the Gothic house, the only building that has preserved its original exterior. The square's distinctive oval shape comes from the time when it served as an electric railway station; today it's a pedestrianized zone. Relax with a beer, have a bite of pizza or pastry at one of the outdoor cafes, and watch the locals go about their daily lives. • This is a place that was once filled with water as part of the port, now filled in and acting as a social centre. The old buildings around make it a pleasant place to visit, along with many restaurant...  more »
  • Lovely central square in Piran, where one can imagine and feel the arrival of merchant ships. Italian atmosphere, it wasn't their Italian foundations.

  • Just seems to stay in Venice as either type of Istrian marble buildings and promenade

  • Oct 2017. Beautiful Town, Tartini Square, street patios, seaside restaurants are fabulous. One comment regarding ACCESSIBILITY. We arrived in a wheelchair accessible van but were not allowed to enter the city with the van, our driver had to park outside the city core and we walked with wheelchair into the heart of town, it is not a short distance. Considering the numerous able-body people who were driving in and out of town, I think it's time Piran reconsider it's vans-in-town rule when it comes to accessibility, like many other European cities and towns.
  • Very small nice place. Ideal to spend one day -even a night there. Very friendly people. There are some places where you can swim. The restaurants and markets have good prices.
  • Nice place to be with family. Closed area for traffic. Good restaurants. Nice people, nice city!
  • Magnificent square in a centre of beautiful city, Piran. Definitely do not miss this one! The sea was very clean at time of our visit and swimming next to local historical buildings is really romantic.
  • really nice city near the sea, nice place to have a walk and spend half a day or a day in the small town and city center
