Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg), Piran

(4.7/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Sitting close to the water's edge, paved with white marble and surrounded by elegant 19th-century buildings, Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg) serves as the largest square in town and a hub of activity. The square was part of the harbor until 1894, when it was filled in and mounted with a statue of violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, after whom the square is named. Most of the buildings are older than the square itself; be sure to look for the Gothic house, the only building that has preserved its original exterior. The square's distinctive oval shape comes from the time when it served as an electric railway station; today it's a pedestrianized zone. Relax with a beer, have a bite of pizza or pastry at one of the outdoor cafes, and watch the locals go about their daily lives. • We love people watching in this spot. We always visit in October so the population is down at that time yet it is warm and quiet and sweet.
  • After parking your car at the top, you go down through a narrow steep, but very picturesque, towards the sea. Suddenly, magically appears Tartini Square wrapped in light, colors and classical music: incredible. A bit of Venice, which is combined with some Austrian buildings, overlooks this part of Austria on a very beautiful sea.

  • Coming from the entrance to the city (the car should be left in the designated parking lots outside the city), to the sea on your left, you decide to delve into the narrow alleyways that characterize the seaside and at some point, get out of the way and you find yourself in a huge square that leaves you breathless for how beautiful!

  • GiuseppeTartini, recently cleaned, stands in front of the Mayoral offices on Tartini Trg in Piran. Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, galleries, the harbour and local busses are all to be found here. Narrow ways lead to the old light on 'punta' or to the cathedral. Mostly pedestrianised so park at the multi-storey at Fornače and catch the free bus in.
  • You should come here if you're in the area. Its quite nice and closed off to cars. A short walk away from great restaurants.
  • Unique town square with Venetian style buildings and exceptional view. much less busy than Venezia. Recommend diving museum - 3 min walk towards bus station.
  • Really lovely place. Full with people and lot's of cafes. I love this place. During the day or at night it looks always amazing. Worth of visiting.
  • Nice place to be with family. Closed area for traffic. Good restaurants. Nice people, nice city!
