Piran Town Walls, Piran

(320+ reviews on the web)
Landmark Tourist Spot
Put one euro in the locked gate to access the stairs and climb to the top of Piran Town Walls, offering views of the city and the sea. The three walls were built during the town's long history, and large parts remain well-preserved today. See the ruins of the first wall from the 7th century in the old part of the town. The third wall with its seven towers built between 1470 and 1533 is almost completely intact. As you explore the walls, look for the oldest of the eight city entrances or "gates," which dates back to the 13th century. Among other gates, pay attention to the city's best-preserved Gothic doors, constructed in 1483 by mayor Dolfin. • It was a good climb up to the top of the walls and the steps were uneven and awkward. At the top there was a lively view all over Piran.  more »

  • It's a great place to view central Piran, only 2 Euro to enter, but watch your head on those staircases, the people that built it must've been short :)
  • The 15 century town walls protected this then Venetian town. A number of "Second" gates permitted access to the town but inner defences and "First" gates protected the town core and the harbour.
  • It's a steep climb to get there, and you'll have to pay €1 to get on the wall, but it is definitely worth it. Beautiful view overlooking the sea and Piran
  • If you go to piran, you must climb this walls. Very beautiful point of view of the city.
  • Costs 2 Euros but the view is well worth it.
