Categories: Monuments, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
Stretching between the Dragon Bridge and the Triple Bridge, Vodnik Square (Vodnikov trg) is best-known for an open-air market with stalls of fruits, vegetables, fresh flowers, herbs, and meat products. Built after the 1895 earthquake in the place of an old monastery, the square is named after Valentin Vodnik--a Slovenian poet, priest, and journalist whose statue graces the plaza. Walk through the market and buy some souvenirs, local honey, or a light snack. Occasionally you can catch sight of musicians playing traditional instruments. A path across the street leads to Castle Hill. • A colorful market that takes place every morning on the Central Vodnikov trg adjacent to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Especially in summer, affect the colors and geometry of fruit exposed on the benches. Not to be missed.
