Town Hall, Ljubljana

(220+ reviews on the web)
Government Building Tourist Spot
With its high pediment topped with a clock tower, Town Hall stands out from other buildings lining a vast cobbled square. Climb the massive stairway to reach a triple-arched stone portico and a Venetian-style balcony. Notice a late Gothic plate with the city's coat of arms, preserved from the original building. A sculpture depicting Hercules and a lion in the vestibule was brought in from the 17th-century Hercules Fountain. The inner courtyard occasionally hosts art or history exhibits, and some oil paintings decorate the interior walls. Notice the impressionist painting of a symphony orchestra, which may well be the orchestra Gustave Mahler led when he was young. • It was built in 1484 in a Gothic style and underwent a Baroque renovation with a Venetian inspiration between 1717 and 1719.
  • Would be nice to have a guide all the time
  • Temporary art exhibitions and Ljubljana development. Nice building. Open late in the evening.
  • Very pretty building that perfectly symbolizes the old town. The fountain in front and the facade are very pretty and recently restored. The inside hosts several exhibitions, some of which are free. Very nice courtyard as well.
  • Beautiful town hall, a good place to meet friends.
