Technical Museum of Slovenia, Ljubljana

#8 of 12 in Museums in Ljubljana
Occupying the buildings and grounds of a former monastery, Technical Museum of Slovenia boasts a collection of luxury cars once used by Tito, president of former Yugoslavia for nearly four decades. Hugely appealing to car lovers, the museum also features many exhibits dedicated to hunting, fishing, woodworking, forestry, and electrical engineering. Some of the most popular areas include a recreation of a blacksmiths shop, flour mill, and a sawmill. Guided tours in several languages (including English) bring the science and technology behind the exhibits closer to the visitors. Those interested in a more immersive experience can join a demonstration or workshop on a range of technological subjects. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Ljubljana holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Technical Museum of Slovenia and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • It'll take you quite a bit of time to see everything this museum has to offer. It hosts collections from various fields, such as transportation, the making of textiles, fishing and hunting, bread baki...  more »
  • We came to visit Bistra after there were passed in the car in front of a few days earlier. The Museum has a lot of sections. and we who after section vehicles came to the mill and we thought he was finished! Luckily the lady there indicates continuing! It comes in a beautiful cloister in green, where for every door access to a different topic. The House of the blacksmith, carpentry, seyione, Slovenian wildlife sound etc etc.. Finally if you want to relax near the church there is a beautiful meadow with a pond and some bench to relax. We are 3 hours visiting and we haven't gone over! But we had counted time and had to return. Will definitely be back!

  • We were on a visit to the Museum, who say there is a little something nice to look at that would take a day at leisure, technology in my humble opinion there is very little, but it's worth a visit is rich in history

  • It is located half an hour from Ljubljana, but it shouldn't be missed. Me and my family spend a quality time there, so it could be interesting even for the young children. You'll need at least 2-3 hours for the visit.
  • Technical Museum in the Castle Museum of stuffed animals animal too.

Where to stay in Ljubljana

One of Europe's smaller capitals, Ljubljana offers fairly limited sleeping options, with most of its three- and four-star hotel rooms concentrated in and around the expensive city center. Travelers on a limited budget can explore the city's hostels, which offer small rooms with access to shared restrooms and common dining areas. If you need more privacy and space, rent an apartment on the outskirts of town, or check into one of the family-run guesthouses near the city's international airport.
