Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web
Renamed "Russian Road" in 2006, Vrsic is a high mountain pass that runs through the heart of the Julian Alps. The road was built 1,611 m (5,285 ft) above sea level during World War I by Russian prisoners of war. Hike the cobbled road or cycle to the summit while admiring the exceptional vistas of other peaks and slopes. Watch for Ajdovska Deklica, a naturally carved face of a maiden in a rock. Have a cup of coffee or consider staying overnight at one of the five mountain huts along the way and at the top of the pass. The trails are easy to follow, even for children. • If you are in the area worth a short visit to vršič pass; from kranjska gora there climbs up to 1,600 m high, between bends and fantastic views, then down towards bovec ... When you are at the top the view is great, and one can only bow in front of the Majesty of nature; but along the way there are many spots where you can stop to admire the view ... a great compliment everybody that comes by bike, you have all my respect!

  • A nice ride starting and finishing in Italy, we decided to tackle this mythical step. Very rewarding, 50 hairpin bends all in one go, amazing views and beautiful road (bike better climb from Kranjska Gora to porphyry switchbacks...) Highly recommended
