Vintgar Gorge (Soteska Vintgar), Bled

Hiking Trail Nature / Park
Cut deep between two hills overgrown with beech forests, Vintgar Gorge (Soteska Vintgar) is full of small waterfalls, rapids, and erosion potholes. Cartographer and photographer Benedikt Lergetporer and mayor of Gorje Jakob Zumer discovered the gorge in 1891. Walk along the tourist path with narrow passages, wooden bridges, and galleries, constructed on the rocks in 1893. Listen to the roar of Radovna River echoing along the 1.6 km (1 mi) long gorge marked at the end by a waterfall plunging 16 m (52 ft). The gorge also features two manmade attractions: an arched stone railway bridge from 1906 and a dam. When you reach the end of the gorge, walk back across the meadows passing St. Catherine's church. Put Vintgar Gorge (Soteska Vintgar) and other Bled attractions into our Bled tourist route planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Only issue is there doesn't seem to be an easy loop all the way round so you have to turn back on yourself, which was a bit of a pain as I am recovering from a foot injury but it was definitely worth ...  more »
  • Really beautiful walk. Taking in the sights and soaking it all up took just under 2 hours. The way there and back is the same route along (at times) a narrow wooden walkway. We deliberately got there ...  more »
  • If you're near Bled with your own transport this is a really worthwhile visit. The falls are stunning and the walking is flat and easy on wooden walkways. It was pretty quiet in early June too so we c...  more »
