Lubovna Castle, Stara Lubovna
(4.6/5 based on 95 reviews on the web)
Perched atop a forested limestone hill, Lubovna Castle once served as a key defensive point along the Hungarian Empire's frontier. Make your way up to the castle and admire its sturdy construction, imposing stone walls, defensive towers, and a host of dwellings and buildings within. Originally built around the turn of the 14th century, the castle underwent several rounds of renovation, modification, and expansion in the following centuries. Be sure to enter the fortified bastion, now at least superficially portraying a Renaissance architectural style, and explore the on-site museum. The museum works to catalog the history of the fortress, its residents, owners, and its role in the surrounding town. • Amazing castle located in Spis region. You get guidebook on enter and make tour alone. I really appreciated that, because I had a lot of time for truly enjoying the exhibit. Castle is nicely renovated...  more »
  • The Castle has been preserved in very good condition. We visited a dozen or so rooms with various themes and we know the history of the fortress and its owners, which takes about 1.5 hours. An added attraction is the location (wooded hill with a steep 10-minute approach) and breathtaking views. Tickets are not expensive-5 euro.
