Orava Castle, Oravsky Podzamok

(4.5/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
One of Slovakia's most famous and popular fortresses, Orava Castle occupies a rocky crag overlooking the surrounding river valley. Though originally constructed during the 1200s, the castle underwent many reconstructions and restorations during the following centuries. You can visit the fortress, perched atop a 112 m (367 ft) high cliff, and explore its interior, which itself dates back to the 18th century. Take time to admire the castle's sturdy stone construction, with imposing walls built directly into the rock, and sheltered lower courtyard and church below. Joining the two-hour guided tour, offered in English, is the only way to enter the castle. To visit Orava Castle on your trip to Oravsky Podzamok, use our Oravsky Podzamok vacation generator.

  • It was so beautiful, we didn't want to leave! A must-see if you're visiting Europe. The surroundings in Slovakia and Poland are beautiful beyond words!
  • Orava Castle was built as a defensive Castle and according to the interpretation of the sprievodkyne was never dobitý ... If you go all the courtyards which precede the three gateways, as well as believable. Steep stairs of about 800 you eye-catching in the nedobytnosti Castle. A very pleasant addition to the Orava Castle of fimov was natáčaných. Dracula/Vampire with Monferatu/and many fairy tales/King drozdia/Little Beard was also an acting appearance of Dracula//grof and musical groups in the premises of the Castle.

  • Visited the Orava Castle in January 2017. Went there specifically from Bratislava to entire 4:00! However, trains are comfortable and kind of on the way beautiful, time flies! The first impression of Castle-Oh, how it's built. At such a height. Yes even such a huge! There were shooting film Nosferatu, so customers expect terrible surprises. Nosferatu himself there, too, in a Cabinet behind glass. At the bottom there is a very nice café with local food and beer. We sat there with great pleasure.

  • Nice and unique castle. Unfortunately the upper parts were closed for reconstruction and our tour guide seemed to be in a hurry. If you download the audioguide app, keep in mind you then have to download each segment individually and there are over 20. Tours are in Slovakia but there are other languages on the app.
  • One of "must see" if visiting in Slovakia. Still not convinced? It's so authentic, that couple of movies were filmed there. Which movies? Visit the castle, you will find out as one exposition is dedicated to "home filmed" movies.
  • Beautiful and authentic castle. Visit website before visit to see wvents. Very crowded on weekends and long wait for the tours. ( took us 2 hours waiting)
  • The tour is nice if you are small group. I recommend the longest route.
  • Beautiful castle with interesting and rich history. Guides are also great. Worth a visit.
