  • This is one of the largest castles in Europe, in the medieval style, and occupied until the 18 century. After that, a great fire destroyed all the wooden parts, and the owners moved, saved from some of their partences. Today the castle was partially redecorated with copies of original objects saved from the fire, or similar period. The view from the tower is very cool, and also worth a stroll through the outer wall. There are some explanations written throughout the place, and you can also borrow an audio guide (in Slovak) or download the application guide there, the wifi offered by them. I chose the latter option and it worked great. To get there, you can stop the car in the parking lot and then walk about 10 min, or go by bus to spis podhradie and walk about 40 min.

  • Great climb ... then closed at 16.50. Disappointment. Photogenic from below, but after so much effort is hard to accept the door shut. Some info, timetables should be also placed in parking lots!

  • Another UNESCO World Heritage site in Eastern Slovakia that is well worth the effort to see. Large (really large) ruins with some museum-like exhibits, an outstanding detailed walking tour available i...  more »

  • OMG! Amazing! Consider staying in town overnight, so you can see the castle lit up after dark. Incredible! I could see it from my accommodation. Magical!
  • Excellent.. A must do, if in the area. Free WiFi, and a great interpretive app available via Google Play. The best castle visit I've ever experienced.. And I've done a few..
  • Beautiful castes with interesting exposition and guided tours. Kids really liked the torturing equipment which you can try on yourself. Don't worry, no harm will be done to you. In good weather you can have beautiful views of High Tatras and surrounding area.
  • For people with good imagination. Most of the castle are walls today. System of the castle's defense was incredible and it was very hard to beat the castle in the past. Must see if you like history.
  • This is a must see. Unreal greatness. You can only imagine how powerful the rulers felt in this glorious castle. Beautiful views both from top of the castle and of castle itself from afar. Entry is 6eur for adult. Museum part was cool too.
