Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web
A World Heritage Site perched atop a hill overlooking a mountain valley, Spissky Castle stands as one of the largest structures of its kind in the region. Originally constructed during the 12th century, the castle has changed hands many times and has also been the setting for many medieval-themed movies. Tour the historical fortress, now restored after centuries of disrepair and open to the public. Pass imposing stone walls and defensive towers as you make your way up to the bastion area built upon a rocky outcropping. Explore the museum to learn more about the castle's military history and see examples of weapons and other artifacts. Be sure to bring your camera to take advantage of the sweeping mountain views from the fortress hill. • The Castle (actually the ruins of the Castle) can be seen from afar. As you approach each Metro grows in the eyes. Very well marked. At the time, when I was there I was there was no problem with parking. I parked almost under the same lock. A short walk and I was on the spot. After paying admission, I learned that you can for free rent an audio guide ("speakers" in English). Rent only on bail but after you return the machine money we get back. Recording on the audioprzewodniku top class! You can know everything about the history of the place. While the same recordings are not too long and not get tired. However, the biggest advantage of this place are the views from the Castle. In good weather, visibility on more than a dozen kilometres! I recommend to those who are interested in the history, architecture (the dawniejszą).

  • This is the largest castle in Slovakia and is one of the larger ones in Europe. Take your time on the climb up as you'll want your energy to conquer the castle grounds. We arrived on the first Sunday ...  read more »
  • I went to 10/10/2016. There is in other people's posts from October, closed March and the information is open and the Castle. Seems that only reduces the operating time. Available on the official WEBSITE. When summer is the best season, but I was so much fog settling back in time, but at the top of the castle is it like in the sky is amazing. Is covered with dew, and slippery on the road, but it is recommended.

  • Beautiful castes with interesting exposition and guided tours. Kids really liked the torturing equipment which you can try on yourself. Don't worry, no harm will be done to you. In good weather you can have beautiful views of High Tatras and surrounding area.
  • It is huge, but hard to grasp the feeling of how it was to live in the castle. There was for me also a huge crowd. Probably worth to take a few minutes when you arrive to get the audioguide on through their free wifi. There are 2 parkings, one down the hill and one close to the entrance. Make sure you take the one closest... else you'll have to walk up which gets very hot under the sun. It also fills rather quickly so it is better to come in the morning.
  • This is a must see. Unreal greatness. You can only imagine how powerful the rulers felt in this glorious castle. Beautiful views both from top of the castle and of castle itself from afar. Entry is 6eur for adult. Museum part was cool too.
  • For people with good imagination. Most of the castle are walls today. System of the castle's defense was incredible and it was very hard to beat the castle in the past. Must see if you like history.
  • Featured in the movie Dragonheart, this is the castle of Avalon! Stunning 360 panoramic view from the tower. An excellent stop for castle lovers!
