Dobsinska Ice Cave, Dobsina

3.6
#3 of 8 in Parks in Kosice Region
Tour subterranean tunnels filled with a host of formations at Dobsinska Ice Cave, part of a World Heritage-listed series of caverns. Tucked away in a secluded part of the Western Carpathian Mountains, the cave reaches nearly 1.5 km (0.9 mi) back into the rock. Join a guided tour, the only way to access the cave, and get up-close looks at towering stalagmites, hanging stalactites, and other ice structures as you walk the tour path. By volume, the ice makes it one of the largest caves of its kind in the world. Temperatures within hover around freezing year-round and the ground is slippery, so dress accordingly and wear sensible walking shoes. • From our výpavy on Slovakia is Dobsinska Ice Cave a favorite. I think this is something unique and worth a visit her pity, that is not the lowest but in the price list of the Slovak Caves Administration it is normal.

  • It's a huge lucrative tourist factory (€3,50 parking + € 8 per person + € 10 for the pictures). Access take about 1 / 2 hours and there are 130 m uphill. The visit is done by group of 50 to 100 people every 10 minutes. 2 breakpoints with comments only. It is somewhat normal as there is not much to see: large masses of ice on the walls and 3 or 4 concretions of ice without interest. Aside to cool down to-2 ° C for 30 minutes after a good sweat for access no other interest.

  • It is a nice place. There is 25-40 minutes walk. Not trivial walk, you need to climb. After that you can visit the cave. It is not "wow" but it is nice Tip: You need warm clothes, you can change at th...  more »

  • Very impressive ice cave in the Slovenský raj national park. You need to join a guided tour to go inside, ticket is 8€ and 3€ for parking. Parking area is about 10-20 min from the cave entrance and ticket office. Walking path is good and mostly uphill. The tour is a circular path around the cave, only Slovakian guiding. The guides appear to be busy getting people through as fast as possible so you walk in a long line with lots of people and don't really have time to stop and look around. The cave itself would get 5 points.
  • Visited the ice cave today. The walk to the cave is around 30 minutes and very steep! Make sure to wear good shoes. But then the ice cave .... it is a very short tour. Only in Slovak. If you want to make pics you have to pay 10 euros but don't do this!!! You wont get the chance to make good ones. The tour leader was grumpy. It is just a fun thing to see but all the accomodations around the cave are bad. Poor restaurant, very nasty toilets with menstrual blood all over! This could have been very nice. Make sure to wash your hands.
  • The cave itself is very impressive with a lot of beautiful ice and definitively worth visiting. But the tour is a bit short and only in Slovak language. Like in all caves in Slovakia a photo permission costs 10€ but you can also get some shots by sneaking out of the guides view. Parking is 3.50€.
  • The regular way to see this cave is by taking the tour. While theoretically they offer English and German tours we didn't had the opportunity so we took the Slovakian tour. This is the first star off. The second one is for the prices: we payed 3€ for parking and 8€ admission per adult and 7€ per student. If you want to make photos in the cave you have to pay 10€. I guess maintaining the cave is expensive, but this spoils the trip. The tour is about half an hour.
  • The feeling I got ripped off. The cave itself is okay, but not great. Tickets for two adults is €8, but the tour lasted about 15 minutes and felt very rushed. They charge €10 for taking photos. Insane prices really, out of this world. You can't even take the time to take good pictures. Also tours are not in English.
