Dobsinska Ice Cave, Dobsina

3.7
Tour subterranean tunnels filled with a host of formations at Dobsinska Ice Cave, part of a World Heritage-listed series of caverns. Tucked away in a secluded part of the Western Carpathian Mountains, the cave reaches nearly 1.5 km (0.9 mi) back into the rock. Join a guided tour, the only way to access the cave, and get up-close looks at towering stalagmites, hanging stalactites, and other ice structures as you walk the tour path. By volume, the ice makes it one of the largest caves of its kind in the world. Temperatures within hover around freezing year-round and the ground is slippery, so dress accordingly and wear sensible walking shoes. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Dobsina trip simple and quick.

  • Another "must see" object in our trip. A little bit "cold" for hot summer day :) But it is worth to visit. Just take a jackets. Before you need a take a walk to cave up. It is some 100m higher than...  more »
  • It's a very nice ice cave. The tour is pretty short (less than 30 min). We took the English tour but haven't managed to hear anything at all. If you never been to an ice cave it's recommended. There.....  more »

  • After the long tour to the top of the mountain it was amazing to see the ice. Download the PDF from the page they suggest before getting down to the cave, because it will be easier to follow. The cave has a lot of stairs, so prepare for that too. I personally loved it. In my opinion the proper clothing pays off. So no matter how hot is outside bring some warm footwear and clothes with you.
  • Once you make a step from the gate, you are being hit by a very cold breeze. Be dressed property for a low temperature. The tour takes about 30-40min. Impressive cave especially the tunnels carved inside the ice. They only have guides that speak Slovak.
  • Very enjoyable and quite beautiful, though a bit short. Be aware of the following: 1) Getting to the entrance requires a short hike up the side of the mountain (about 20mins) 2) regular tours run in multiple languages but requires at least 40 people to operate. As we were the only 2 English-speaking individuals, we had to join a tour in Slovakian. 3) Download the tour sheet from their website and keep it with you, this includes all the information that they will share on the tour in multiple languages.
  • Definitely worth a visit. There is quite a steep 20 minute walk up to the entrance to the cave, which is where you buy your ticket. Suitable walking shoes are a must. Ticket prices are 8€ for adults and an additional €10 if you want to take photos but we felt it was worth it. The tours are mainly in Slovakian and Hungarian but it is possible to download the pdf in other languages. There are QR codes on the wall to the right of the kiosk where you buy tickets that allow you to do this. It is very cold in the caves so take extra clothing with you.
  • The cave is... A..Maze...Ing... You need to go there and experience it... Lots of available parking by the main road... Pay for parking in the information by the shop/cafe.. Be prepared for a steep 20minute trek up through the woods to get to the entrance to the cave so build that into your time plan... Well worth it though
