St. Martin's Cathedral, Bratislava
(4.2/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
See the former coronation church of Hungarian kings and the largest Gothic minstry in Slovakia at St. Martin's Cathedral, whose tall spire dominates the Old Town. Once a part of the city's fortification walls, the 85 m (279 ft) high tower is topped by the Hungarian crown set on a gilded cushion. The inside of the church features Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque decor, as well as 19th-century Viennese stained-glass windows. A prominent feature of the interior is an equestrian statue of St. Martin dressed like a hussar. The cathedral houses the relics of an early 7th-century saint, John the Merciful. • One of the few free buildings to enter in the old town, a grand but small cathedral, close to the UFO bridge and castle, no facilities inside and catacombs currently closed.
  • If you want to see something beautiful and historic downtown, stop by to look at the home of St. Martin, who also boasts a Golden Crown on his tower. It's a sign that in this Cathedral have been crowned many monarchs, and perhaps the most famous is the Maria Theresa. You don't have to be here just to pray, but also to admire the masterpieces in this beautiful church.

  • Beautiful Cathedral with a lot of history behind it. Notice the gold-plated replica of the St. Stephen's crown on top of the tower. Maria Theresa, the only female ruler of the Habsburg monarchy, was crowned in this cathedral. Don't forget to visit the crypts below the Cathedral which are small but interesting to say the least. The chapel is of the Saint John the Merciful can be found inside the cathedral as well.
  • well-kept simple cathedral. it doesn't look like something special outside, the interior also isn't a great piece of art, but it's worth to see it. we can't forget it has a great historical value so for sure it's palce to visit
  • A slightly different cathedral and although it appears small from the outside it still exhibits greatest on the inside. The detailing in the ceiling is marvelous so it is worth a quick peak inside
  • Together with the Bratislava Castle, St. Martin's Cathedral welcomed us on 30.11.2015🏰. Please pay close attention to the golden crown on the top of its belfry. This crown gives the hint of the main function of the Cathedral between 1563-1830👑.
  • Beautiful. A part of the Old Town landscape. The landing around it is a good place to get some quiet relaxation.
