St Elizabeth's / Blue Church, Bratislava

(4.4/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
Coated with rows of blue tiles and covered with a blue-glazed roof, St Elizabeth's / Blue Church looks like a giant wedding cake, according to many. The candy-colored church was built around 1908 in the Hungarian secessionist style and first served as the chapel of the neighboring high school. Everything about the church bears resemblance to a cake--its shape, the facade's light blue color, and the white, frosting-like ornaments. A cylindrical church tower rises 37 m (120 ft) from the ground. Notice the circular mosaic of St. Elizabeth of Hungary above the main portal and the altar decorated with the image of her giving alms to the poor. • A place that really is worth the trip. The Church is lost in the blue sky. It almost seems fake.

  • Thought we should see see the blue church, not a lot to see other than a church painted blue! However, our real find was the pizzeria next to it. Went in just for a drink and ended up going back for d...  more »
  • One of the tourist attractions and Bratislava. But it has great charm. It is a Catholic Church. The environment does not have much charm.

  • The Little Blue church is a delightful small church to the east of the old town of Bratislava, unique in its decoration it has a specially calm and spiritual air to it as well as being architecturally individual. The decoration inside is simple yet charming. Whilst you maybe shouldn't come to Bratislava just to see this church, it is well worth a look.
  • It's blue da ba dee da ba die. Blue this house with a blue little window and everything is blue for it and its self and everybody around cause it ain't got nobody to listen...
  • It's a blue church that kind of looks like a ginger bread house. Inside is ok, nothing spectacular.
  • Krásny kostol
  • A Little Blue church. A quiet beautiful building wich sadly wasn't markt in our travel guide. I couldn't get a look inside, so i can't say anything about it, but the exterior is great.
