Devin Castle, Bratislava

(1,500+ reviews on the web)
Castle
Strategically situated on a cliff above the confluence of two important rivers, Devin Castle bears evidence of prehistoric settlements as well as Roman and medieval ruins. The fortification walls encircle a landscape of open courtyards, staircases, and towers in uneven states of repair. Look for the small watchtower called the Maiden Tower balancing on a sole rock. Legend has it that many imprisoned lovesick daughters plunged to their deaths from this tower. See the foundations and the tiny model of the first Christian church north of the Danube. The castle houses a museum exhibiting archaeological objects and offers a range of outdoor activities, such as boat rides, hiking trails, and horseback riding. The upper castle has been closed to the public since 2008, due to reconstruction. See Devin Castle and all Bratislava has to offer by arranging your trip with our Bratislava trip itinerary builder.

  • It is a really nice castle. Quite bad that one part is not open for the public, but the view is astonishing. You can get there by bus (line 61).  more »
  • After years of what I live in BA, we decided to visit the Devin Castle. In a landscaped area, a well documented history of the Castle from the dashboard. In the courtyard of the castle is a room with a time exposure, and excavations. It is a cross section of I'm guessing since the stone age.

  • Castle on the outskirts of Bratislava, well maintained with a nice view. Unfortunately the Castle did not remain too much to see there are only the surrounding walls, but the scenery and low price are worth a visit.

  • Really nice view, I just wish the whole place was unlocked to go any where. You can only go to a minimal part of the castle
  • Would highly recommend a visit to the castle. Entrance fee is €1.50. The top of the castle gives a stunning view of the Danube river. Can be reached by buses 28, 29 within 20 minutes. Perfect for a less than a half day visit. Would also recommend hiking up the Devinska Kobyla, for a top view of the whole castle itself.
  • I am sad to say that Slovakia still needs to improve it's services to attract international turists. The castle was closed and not even the turist information in Bratislava knew abut it. So we spend over two hours for nothing... Avoid a visit to the castle in the winter but its a great place in the summer.
  • Amazing views on the river and montains, no many people around, quiet place, nice fresh air.
  • Great feeling of space and outdoors. Also provided a different perspective for the Danube
