Devin Castle, Bratislava
(4.2/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Strategically situated on a cliff above the confluence of two important rivers, Devin Castle bears evidence of prehistoric settlements as well as Roman and medieval ruins. The fortification walls encircle a landscape of open courtyards, staircases, and towers in uneven states of repair. Look for the small watchtower called the Maiden Tower balancing on a sole rock. Legend has it that many imprisoned lovesick daughters plunged to their deaths from this tower. See the foundations and the tiny model of the first Christian church north of the Danube. The castle houses a museum exhibiting archaeological objects and offers a range of outdoor activities, such as boat rides, hiking trails, and horseback riding. The upper castle has been closed to the public since 2008, due to reconstruction. See Devin Castle and all Bratislava has to offer by arranging your trip with our Bratislava trip itinerary builder.

  • This is a great castle. It was not open when we were there, but we could walk around the ground and on the walls. nice view of the Danube river and surroundings.. Very nice visit, worth visiting
  • Devin is a delightful place. Ruins of the Castle at the confluence of the Danube and Moravia, where you can feel the history. I really liked the archaeological exhibition offering a journey to prehistoric times. The only thing that was striking was unchanged despite the admission because of the reconstruction of the upper Castle closed. Walk around the Danube River to the Castle and the Memorial to the victims of the iron curtain also is worth it. In comparison with the Bratislava castle really an attractive place.
