Art Gallery Art Museum
Set on a peninsula extending into the Danube River, Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum boasts an extensive collection of modern artwork from international artists. Designed to resemble a sort of modernist Roman galley, the sleek museum features a large collection of pieces from the Netherlands because of founder Gerard Meulensteen's own Dutch heritage. You'll also find plenty of works representing Slovakia, the U.S., and other European countries. Swing by the gift shop and pick up an art-related souvenir or print of one of the museum's pieces. You can also stroll through the grounds outside to admire a series of modern art sculptures. With our world travel planner, Bratislava attractions like Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • The museum is about 20 km out of Bratislava but it's well worth a visit. The building is fabulous. The cafe is a bit overpriced though so beware!  more »
  • You do not have to be art interested to enjoy this, Art that I really liked. Modern stuff with an edge. You probably finish here in around 1-2 hours since it is not much to read only to watch.  more »

  • I would give it from 3 to 4 for the museum exhibits, but it is a place to have a look at what somewhat call "contemporary" or "modern" [art]. Mostly (or only) Slovakian artists are represented here. And I would taste from 4 to 5 for the museum shop - a very decent selection of art books. Many rare and worth of having.
  • Surprisingly delightful contemporary art museum about an hour's boat ride from downtown Bratislava. An extensive collection for a small museum. We needed about 2.75 hours to see it. Some great local artists and well curated! A great activity for a day in Bratislava!
  • Excellent location, magnificent building. Artwork could be of a higher level. Museum shop could better sell stuff that has actually got something to do with the museum.
  • The best!!! If you are in Bratislava you need to go to Danubiana. Is beautiful. Take a cup of coffee and eat a special desert!
  • Best in location , the views of the river are spectacular. I was alone for most of my visit, which was nice to have the tranquility to contemplate. But more people should come visit this beautiful space.

Where to stay in Bratislava

Save money on a trip to the pricey town of Bratislava by booking a private room or by staying in one of the many hostels. While there are hotels here, frequent business travelers have driven prices up. Find accommodation in Stary Mesto--the city's Old Town--and experience the medieval charm of the area, such as winding streets, old churches, and a hill-top castle. Consider staying on the Danube for riverside views. Be sure to check the reviews of your lodging ahead of time; the quality of accommodations can vary.
