Bratislava Castle (Hrad), Bratislava
(3.6/5 based on 2,600+ reviews on the web)
Standing on a rocky hill and overlooking the river, Bratislava Castle (Hrad) dominates the city and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the neighboring countries of Austria and Hungary. The massive, fully restored building is topped with four corner towers. Look for the well-conserved original part of the structure, the 15th-century Sigismund Gate. The castle houses the national museum and four halls exhibiting archaeological findings, such as the prehistoric statue of the Venus of Moravany. Catch a concert at the Baroque chapel, now converted into a music hall. If you get hungry, dine at the restaurant housed an erstwhile Baroque stable facing an English park. Make Bratislava Castle (Hrad) a centerpiece of your Bratislava vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Bratislava trip itinerary builder.

  • The bus that makes you visit the city drops you into the garden of the Castle from where you can see the bridge and the saucer. the gardens are quite pleasant. We could not visit the Castle as a great reception it was given that day. One of our Ministers was present but not requested us to join him.

  • As above, lovely walk up and stunning exterior and views to the UFO bridge but the inside is nothing like you would imagine, all modern in most cases and very little other than paintings to see. A hec...  more »
  • I went there in December and ar the cold, the gardens are great but I would have better benefited with a ray of sunshine. The castle is massive and very well restored. Some parts are still being restored.

  • A beautiful Castle. The view is great. The baroque garden is a personal favourite for me. There is a restaurant with stunning views, but fairly expensive prices. It always feels peaceful, there's always space for you to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Beware, they don't open on bank holidays!
  • Nice castle. But not very historical. Museum was small. Gardens are still young. Nice to visit. But not very historic
  • Bratislava wasn't such a beautiful city. There was not much there to see. Just the bridge with a watch tower and the castle that was overlooking the river and the city. That's all. I loved the streets in the city centre but they are the same kinds of streets in most European countries.
  • A pretty building which is in really good condition after recent renovation. Maybe not the most historically interesting castle as it has a very modern feel to it now, but still a must see in Bratislava.
  • So much more there than you would expect from a castle in England. Lots of green space and amazing gardens Very high up and views are superb Take your camera!
