Bratislava Castle (Hrad), Bratislava

Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.6/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web
Standing on a rocky hill and overlooking the river, Bratislava Castle (Hrad) dominates the city and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the neighboring countries of Austria and Hungary. The massive, fully restored building is topped with four corner towers. Look for the well-conserved original part of the structure, the 15th-century Sigismund Gate. The castle houses the national museum and four halls exhibiting archaeological findings, such as the prehistoric statue of the Venus of Moravany. Catch a concert at the Baroque chapel, now converted into a music hall. If you get hungry, dine at the restaurant housed an erstwhile Baroque stable facing an English park. • Worth a visit if in the city. It is a 15 minute uphill walk from the old city wall. The views were very good, and the castle itself is impressive.
  • The views are fantastic and worth the effort to walk up and enjoy...lots to see and do around the castle ... go visit
  • On the outside it is very nice and offers the best views of the city. We entered and on the inside it is not very attractive. There are signs of archaeological pieces and many of these were replicas. There are pictures and elements of the time. The good thing is that you can climb to the top of the tower and there you can have a full view of the entire city.

  • First of: Only go there when you have great Weather. After the exhausting climb the reward is even greater. You'll have a beautiful view over nearly all of Bratislava. From there you can plan the next trip to the Donau or the old Town.
  • Very impressive. Great view. If you don't want to walk all the way up, take the castle tour with the local tour company. You get to see all the other sites on the route and they stop for 15 minutes at the castle. If you like it, you can simply stay there. It's pretty much one of the last stops, if not THE last stop of the tour so you won't miss much if you skip the rest and stay at the castle. You'll still need to walk back down to the old town though or wherever else you need to go after, so keep that in mind if going down hill is difficult for you.
  • some exibitions inside but smaler. great view to old city and donau.
  • A must see attraction - Great Views from the tower. you can also have Lunch or Dinner up there. Booking required.
  • So beautiful! A must visir if you are in the area. Beautiful view of the castle from the city at night time!
